I hate the calendar that comes with the iPad. It never behaves the way I expect it to.

What do you use instead?

I don't use google calendar, so syncing with that isn't a concern, though syncing with iCal would be nice.

I've got a to do app I like right now (Manage), so don't need that functionality. If the best calendar app happens to be a to do app that's fine, but for example I'm not sure I want to spend $15 on pocket informant when I would only be using half the functionality.

Ideas?

I use the built in calendar which syncs with my google calendar. As a matter of fact, my iPhone, iMac, and Macbook calendars are all in sync due to google calendar.

Nobody has a calendar to recommend? I can't believe everyone here uses the default app.

the built in calendar is just awesome, syncs everything from work, looks good, don't have anything to add.. it is the only one I use

I only really use my calendar (google calendar) from my iPhone, long time user of CalenGoo which I have installed on the iPad too.

I've recently switched to Week Calendar on the iPhone and they have an iPad version in the works which will be absolutely amazing when it gets released.

I like the built in calendar. I mostly have my phone on me and I like being able to sync between the two devices to have the same calendar.

BUT.

I would love something that would sync over the internet rather than just when I sync on my Mac. And I don't want to pay for MobileMe again (can't remember if that is one of the benefits or not).

Additionally would like a calendar/organizer that syncs with Android since my wife runs all Android devices.

My wife uses Cozi Family planner, which has a calendar function in it, but I really don't like it because I can't see a calendar view showing what days I have a commitment on like I can on the default Apple calendar app (small nitpick I know). It does sync over the cloud with your account with Cozi and can send updates via text to other devices (which I turned off for my phone). There's some other stuff in there like to-do lists, and shopping lists which I haven't used yet, but I could definitely see the value in having that information pushed to other family members sharing the same account (as well as date/appointment information).

A lot of good reviews for Cozi though so if you need an all in one app it MIGHT be worth checking out. There is a free version of the app and a paid version (I think the paid version just removes the adds, don't know if there are any other differences). I'm still not sure if the app is quite for me though, and I am currently searching for alternatives, but just thought I would mention it since it is the only other calendar/planning app I have messed around with.

I use mical HD a lot. It works ok and it offers more options than the standard app. There are also more options, like Pocket Informant, which is unfortunately slow. Pocket Informant has the best features and integrates tasks and calendar management. If it only were a bit faster...
If you know Week Calendar from the iPhone, then you will also be happy to learn that it is coming soon to the iPhone. This is the best calendar app on the iPhone and I am excited that it is coming to the iPad.

In May we should also see Pocket Informant 2.0. The new version should be much better than the current one and it will be a free upgrade!

I do not use Pocket Informant because it is slow, I don't like the GUI much and because I use Omnifocus for task management, thus making one of the features of Pocket Informant uninteresting for me.

I use a combo of Daily Notes(lots of space for free hand notes for each day) and OmniFocus(GTD tasking).

There's an app called CollegeCal, I'm not sure it fits what you are looking for as it uses the native Calendar. There's probably a number of these bolt-on apps.

Ooh - I looked into week calendar, it looks great! I hope the iPad version gets here soon, I think it is exactly what I'm looking for. In the meantime, I might try the free version of cozi just to see how I like it. Thanks for the recommendations!

I've already seen his preview screenshots of the iPad version and it looks epic :)

I asked on utilitap's blog what their current estimate on the iPad version of week calendar is, and they said 2-3 weeks! Of course, that's if there are no unforeseen bigs or other problems I'm sure, but that's a much shorter timeframe than I was worried it would be. I think I can deal with the regular calendar til then.

Looking forward to this, I really like WeekCal on my iPhone.

My company will not allow to use a different calendar. As we are in Exchange server the build in app the the one to be use. But actually thats perfectly fine for me; sufficient function. I only wish Apple would have a proper ToDo list also attached to Exchange same as for Notes.
That would be a perfect solution for business use.

Week Calendar works fine with Exchange calendars. It just uses the standard iOS databases.

google calendar sync = replacement or additive?

Well, I might try and use the google calendar with my ipad, based on some comments here. But I'm wondering, since I already have some things entered in my ipad ical, if I then sync google calendar to the ipad, will it replace everything in my existing calendar? Or will it simply add the new google calendar info in addition to what is already present on the ipad? Thanks!
