Favorite List/Shopper app

I used 'Shopper' since it was introduced. Was a great app, but the last update killed it for me. It is now a paid app with ads, even persistent ads that stay on your screen if the item is in your list to purchase.

For example, today, I added 'Milk' to my grocery list, and an ad for 'Carnation Milk' appeared at the bottom of the UI. And, in the list view of items, it still appears under the item name, before listing the next item in my list.

This is completely and totally unacceptable, IMO. I immediately deleted the app from iTunes and my phone, changed my review. I'll possibly consider re-installing only if they ever remove the ads completely from the app.

So, did a few searches in the App Store and there now are tons on list/shopping apps. Did a few searches here, but nothing specific to shopping lists (maybe a smidgeon of hits).

I'm mainly looking for one in the checklist/shopping realm (not so much a To Do) list. I'd like it to have a running total of items.

Kind of looking at SplashShopper, Groceries Grocery List, List Maker, Grocery IQ, Listomni Lists (a big brother to Groceries, Grocery List).

Anyone have a favorite of these? Or others?

I like ShopShop. It's free, it's simple to use and it's clean.
If all you want is to make a list quickly, that's the app.

Grocery IQ is my favorite by far. You can set up different stores, arrange the aisles in the app to match the store's layout, and its database is very, very extensive.

I've been happily using Tap Grocer for several months now. It's a nice clean interface, and does exactly what I want it to do. I should point out that it is best used for items that you use regularly, as you create a list and simply keep inventory of what you have stocked and what you need to pick up. It takes a little effort to get it set up with your regular purchases, but once that's done, it works wonderfully. Here's the link if interested...

I use Grocery IQ and LOVE it. I use it every week when I go shopping and it works perfect.

Yeah, no kidding. I would've included screenshots, but I was pretty ticked when I figured out what they were doing and just deleted the app entirely.

The way they implemented ads is doubly intrusive. Not only are the ads at the bottom of certain screens taking up space, they are in the list itself taking up space while shopping. Like when you see the list:

etc....

I've bought [app]Listomni Lists[/app]. Really liking it so far. It's like Bento in a way (but better), each list database has its' specific options predefined, and you can add your own at the same time. Listomni Lists covers a LOT of shopping/to do & many other list type apps like a Swiss Army knife (with lots of view customization, budgets, subheadings, stores, badges, due dates, etc.), and has allowed me to delete two other 'specialty' list apps, getting me back some space on my home screen.

I was going to suggest Listomni - i bought groceries and wish i had bought the whole thing. But i bought it after realizing how mucked up Splash Shopper and desktop are (i bought both). Splash's response to the issues some of us are having is.... lacking.

(for the record, i'm still using Handyshopper on my Treo for grocery shopping - my Dad has promised to write me/us and app that works as well as HS...)

Looks like I might give Grocery IQ a whirl. I emailed support and they gave me the standard, "development costs money" thing which I get... but this is a paid app. I've had free apps that do a better job of implementing ads.

I told them I understand, but they couldn't have placed the ads any more poorly than they did. They show up as notes in your shopping list as opposed to banner ads once or twice on a home screen.

I like iNeedStuff, but I haven't tried any of the others.

With iNeedStuff, you don't tell the app where anything is. It just gradually learns the locations over time, as you mark them off in order while shopping.

It also uses GPS to recognize multiple stores.

Grocery IQ does look interesting, it was my second choice behind Listomni Lists.

I'm totally speculating, but by the look of Grocery IQ & looking at their related websites/company relationships.....I was a little leary that they also wouldn't sometime in the future, go the way of inserting coupons into the software.....this may be a trend in $0.99 software, but I hope not.

I've populated several lists now with Listomni Lists, a few to do categories, gone shopping with the software and still thoroughly impressed. There's also a lot of help/faq/examples in the program.

Looking at Shopper, they've gone from a 4+ star rating to most of the recent ratings since the update being 1 star. Many of the other ratings look 'planted'. They've gone from a top 5 app, to top 20 today. Hope those ads are really paying the bills........

Shopper - What are they thinking

I too am one of those who used to rate Shopper as one of my favorite apps. It is now first on my list of most hated apps. I think it should be impossible to create an 'ads free' app and then include ads. Then they can charge you an additional fee to remove the ads you didn't have in the first place. Fortunately I have a copy of the Version 4 .ipa on my system. I learned long ago to save all apps when they a upgraded.
I deleted the latest version of Shopper (saving the file in case), re synced my touch, copied the older (ver 4) into the itunes application directory (for some reason you must then double click on the file to place it back in the app list), and now Im able to use ver 4 again. The problem is that whenever I look for updated apps it shows-up. I just ignore it and don't download. So the good is I can use Shopper ver4(No Ads), the Bad I must ignore the update. Does anyone know a workaround so unwanted updates do not show when searching for updates?
