Was wondering what your favorite model/revision of each iPod brand (classic, shuffle, nano, touch, mini) is. Lots of models to choose from.
My favorites
Classic: 6th gen
Shuffle: 1st gen
Nano: 3rd gen (even though the 4th is really close)
Touch: 2nd gen
Mini: 2nd gen

Favorite overall: Nano 3rd gen, great design and feature set with good sound.

classic: 4th gen. with monochrome display (third gen. is cool, too)
touch: 1st gen (though the 5th is beautiful)
I've never used the mini, shuffle, or nano, aside from a 6th gen nano I use as a watch (yeah, I know). I've always liked the look of the 4th gen shuffle, though.

While I (if I had to pick) prefer the audio of the 3rd gen. classic, my favorite iPod is the 4th gen. classic. Such a wonderfully simple device and it's so easily repaired/upgraded. There is something alluring about the 1st gen. touch running iOS 1.1, though.

As far as the design goes,

Classic - 5th
Shuffle - 3rd
Nano - 4th
Touch - 2nd
Mini - 1st

Out of those, I only had the 5th generation classic which is my favorite overall for nostalgic reasons. Used to see some of the others in the wild though.

Nothing wrong with the 6th gen Nano as a watch as long as you're getting what you want out of it.

Having used and owned many different iPods, I feel like this changes fairly often, but here goes:

Classic: 4th gen photo
Shuffle: 4th gen
Nano: 6th gen
Touch: 4th gen
Mini: 2nd gen

I guess I have a thing for even generations. :p

I'd probably say the iPod nano could alternate between 1st and 6th gens, but the 6th gen's clip wins me over every time. Plus, VoiceOver is really nice.

I am one of the people that hated the iPod nano 6th gen when it came out, but I've warmed up to it. Haven't owned one yet, though. I like the idea, but I wish they would've still sold a click wheel model.

Original: the one, the only... wow , the beauty of the design, and novelty of the clickwheel approach to navigating MP3 play and refresh options vs alternatives at the time. Also, it was no slouch on hours of play off a charge. I often got three 12-hour workdays out of the thing before it needed a recharge. The thing still works but of course can only be content-refreshed off an equally obsolete Mac with a Firewire drive at this point. I still have a 15" Ti G4 powerbook so that's an option I exercise now and then.

Shuffle: 1st gen (for sound quality)

Mini: meh, whatever i got, the original I guess, I was a fan of until the 1st gen nano showed up

Nano: 2nd gen (durability), runner up 7th gen for BT and radio)

Touch: 3rd gen has proved a better deal for me than the 5th, i e-cycled the latter already.

Classic: original 160GB (battery performance on a single charge better than the next gen)

80 GB 5.5g with the (better?) DAC then subsequent ones. Well, mostly I like that one because it's the only one I've ever owned and it's still working great (original battery as well) after owning it for about 12 years.
