Net nutrality would mean that AT&T couldn't block it from working.

It would NOT mean that Apple has to allow it on their iphone.

Yes, I know they say some are arguing otherwise, but wait and see. I'm convinced that I am correct. I'm also certain that this will eventaully happen. AT&T won't be able to block things like Skype and Google Voice forever. It will come.

But that does NOT mean that Apple has to let them on their phone, acording to this.

Exactly.

The FCC really didn't care about GV per se. That was just bait.

The FCC was fishing to see if ATT had any control over what apps Apple allowed. ATT admitted that they sometimes gave their opinion about apps that had been approved, and that Apple sometimes consulted them about apps before approval. This does not bode well for ATT.

As a sideshow, Google outed Apple as a liar, with Apple claiming they never rejected Google's apps. So any next steps will not assume that Apple is a forthright company to deal with. That does not bode well for Apple.

Apple is slowly realizing that making a phone puts it into areas where the government has more control. In particular, public utilities, public airwaves, and the public interest. And political interests, as well. It isn't the carefree iPod market world.

I understand AT&T's perspective of such an app like google voice but honestly they are back seat driving HARD with apple. Really if they weren't the exclusive carrier they would have no right at all to block this app. I'm glad the FCC stepped in and to be honest when I heard the FCC was reviewing this I wondered if they [the FCC] were over stepping there line.

Actually, the head of the FCC has an iPhone and google voice. So while they did have another intention, thats is probably why they chose google voice to target

apple is still holding firm to what they said before, so its still a matter of deciding who's lying. All we can know for sure is that somebody is

We need to turn this over to the Rocket Scientists at Nasa to figure out, I guess.

Let's see, Google submitted it months ago, it's still not approved, but I know, Apple would NEVER lie.....

Apple's denial is like that of a kid who says, "I didn't eat the last cookie!". (because it's in his pocket)

Here's hoping they take it a step further and say that if you're paying for internet, your carrier can't dictate how you use it and with what...

Free tether...

I'm convinced that I am correct? Did that take long? . You don't believe in wiggle room do you. You got any good stock tips? Just kidding:)

I like this, well spoken:)

Again, well spoken:)

Had to laugh, well spoken, especially the carefree part. I'm still laughing. For some reason after reading that it made me think that everyone at Apple was detached from reality. (I know that's not true.)

They're not unlimited as is....

You can't say goodbye to something you don't already have.

I would have to agree with this statement. If one thinks about it firstly one will always be limited by the speed of the connection, than what ever other blocks that may be in place at any given time.

I don't get why they care aside from the international rates. You still have to use your minutes to dial out on your google number.

That is limited imagination as far as what the app can do. The people who clamor for this app have a little bit more in mind then that. I would explain it but I think the point would be lost.

I say that because I started to think about this kind of stuff back in 2004 or 2005. There was no reason to think it at that time, it was just a hunch.

Since then my reasons for thinking it have only become more clear as more evidence presents itself.

So no, I don't know when, but yes I still think it's inevitable. I'm usually not certain about anything, but I'm willing to claim it here! :D

My hope is the new rules will stop AT&T from preventing apps like Sling Player being used over their network. Sling Player works great, but only over WiFi. It SHOULD work over 3G too. Here's hoping the FCC rules reverse that!

(Yes, I know that a jailbroken iPhone can use Sling Player over 3G. I have zero interest in jailbreaking my iPhone.)

from that pcworld article

The ruckus over Google Voice on the iPhone continues, as Google and Apple squabble over who said what to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, and whether Apple really did ban Google's well-received VoIP app from its App Store. Macworld's Dan Moren offers a good recap of the latest mudslinging developments.

facepalm

As others have said it doesn't mean it will be allowed by Apple on the iPhone. Only that ATT can't block Google voice. Apple can block any app for pretty much any reason.

That's what I was thinking. Stopping AT&T from doing something is one thing, but for iPhone users it takes stopping Apple from blocking the apps.
