I regularly use iMovie and DVD Studio Pro. Sometimes I dabble in Photoshop Elements and I am thinking of upgrading to FCE. Do any of these apps benefit from having dual processors? I am thinking of upgrading my PowerMac or getting a new DP G5. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, do any game benefit from this, or are the video cards more important for them.

Some fo your apps do here is a list:

FCX + FCP (any)
DVD SP (OSX versions only)
Photoshop (any)

iMovie does NOT get anything from it. iMovie is designed to be run hapily on iMacs - I am pretty sure none of the iMacs have ever had DP.

Thanks for the help, now if I could just figure out if it is worth it to shell out three grand for a new computer, or if I should just spend 600 dollars on the one I have, and then give in and buy in a year:D

i shelled out a forutne for my DP1G and i will tell you - it is as fast at most tasks as a G5 1.8 because it is a DUAL.

Pay for it now and enjoy it for longer. As i saw someone else on these forums post: just because a new mac comes out doesnt mean yours gets any slower.

my 1.25ghz powerbook blows away my friends dual 800 at 4minute render times with the same commotion project file. plus we both only have 512 RAM. patiantly waiting for RAM prices #1be available for my unit #2 be cheaper than apple's crap prices
