Okay, loaded footage from my new camera into FCP and keep getting this message (see below) when I try to view or edit footage.
It's making editing an absolute nightmare.
Never happened with my previous camera, EOS 5D MKIV, shooting 4K (25fps). This new camera is EOS 6D MKII, shooting 4k 50fps.
FCP is 10.6.8
iMac Pro (2.5ghz 14 core, Radeon Pro Vega 64, 16GB, 64GB RAM) running Ventura 13.4.1
Import isn't set to create proxy media. Should I be doing that with these larger, higher frame rate files?
Thanks

Read speed of drive on which the editing files are stored can also cause this... as can other things running in the background and eating up processing power. For example, if you have imported to a HDD, maybe the read rate is not fast enough. Or if you've done some edits that are still processing, the system is allocating lots of processing power to the new edits while you are trying to watch them. This can yield dropped frames too.

Note: I have a loaded Mac Studio Ultra and sometimes get dropped frames while editing. So even "latest & greatest" drawing from Apple's super-fast internal SSD is not always fast enough to completely dodge SOME dropped frames in some situations.
