I noticed in Safari in iOS26 when scrolling the search bar minimizes to about the size of the Dynamic Island and is located just under the Dynamic Island. Perhaps using the Dynamic Island itself to display the minimized search bar during scrolling would maximize screen real estate?

Yes. I realize there is a big camera there, thanks. I’m not suggesting using the Dynamic Island as a place to input information. Simply a place to store information you really don’t need during scrolling. Typically, you know what website you are on while you are scrolling. If you needed expanded search information, pressing on the Dynamic Island would then drop the expanded search bar below it (where it resides now).

If that means they change the default behavior when I tap on the island to expand content (i.e. the current long-press action), then I am all for it. I think they got the Dynamic Island wrong from day 1. I never tap on it wanting to go to an app. I tap on it because I want to interact with it. Silly that there is no toggle to change the tap/press defaults.

Tapping the Dynamic Island should expand the content/app while long pressing should open the app itself. MKBHD even mentioned this in his iPhone 14 Pro review.

Anyway, I'm not affected at the moment since I am using an iPhone 11 Pro Max.
