Does anyone think Fed Ex is going to be running slow on the 3rd? I'm in Cincinnati, OH and the neighborhood I live in they are usually really good and deliver by 10am-noon. I am praying there isn't that many pre orders in my area and they won't be running behind. I might be going out of town on Saturday so I am hoping it comes first thing so I can load some movies and stuff on it before leaving.

I can't confirm that this will be the case come next saturday, but every time I've used FedEx I always get an Estimated Delivery Time, and they have always come before (ex: Expect Delivery on 3/27 by 10:20am). I'm sure when the iPads start shipping, you will get an ETA to help plan your day.

with UPS, I always get "Expect Delivery between 9am and 7pm" they suck.

I don't see why the iPad would slow down deliveries, compared to how many deliveries they make on a regular day. To us, the iPad is special, but to FedEx, it's just another package.

I really doubt it. This will differ from location to location, but I doubt that there will be that many orders concentrated in any one area to greatly affect Fed Ex.

Metropolitan location have the advantage of probably having an Apple Store nearby so some of the people that order will be picking up vs. delivery. The areas that are small and don't have an Apple Store nearby, chances are low that a large concentration pre-ordered the iPad.

Everything I have read has stated that pre-orders are under 500k. Even if they squeezed out 1 million pre-orders, thats still less than 1% of US population.

FedEx Home delivery is usually done by FedEx contractors, they get paid by package volume, so they will be chomping at the bit to meet the delivery demand.

I was surprised about a week ago when talking to our regular Express driver. They are contractors as well. He said all of the Express drivers that he works with were.

Its also a saturday so they wont be delivering normal packages that day only ones that paid for saturday delivery.
