I decided to have patients and order my first Apple computer online so I could upgrade the video card and hard drive.

It was shipped from China, landed in AK, then on to TN, where it was lost!

Was supposed to be delivered on June 30th by 10:30am.

Apple is making my wait three days from the scheduled delivery date before they will place an order to build another one.

Wonder if that FedEx employee is reading this on my iMac?

so apple is making you another mac and only charging you for one?

Well, Thursday will have been three business days and when I call them, yes they said they will place an order for a replacement. However, with the holiday and all, it will be two weeks more before I see a computer.

Their shipper lost it, not me.

it be really awsome if they found it like a month from now...and then delivered it to you! You'd have two iMac's! It's not unheard of, there was a letter that was lost in like 1942...and when the post office was remodling they found it and shipped it to the address! But that was an extreme strecth of a situation like yours.

So close, I remember the anticipation of receiving my iMac from FedEx. Understandable the three day waiting period though, no sense in ordering a new computer when it may show up. That sucks you have to wait so long for FedEx's mistake. Are they going to reship it overnight?

I understand the three day thing too. I will ask them about expediting the shipping but from China, I don't know how fast they can get it here?

The guy I spoke with from apple said they would compensate me somehow.

Such as perhaps putting every possible upgrade? haha

I feel your pain. Same thing has happened to me here in Germany--UPS has (apparently) lost my MacBook Pro. Was supposed to be delivered Monday, and when I checked UPS's tracking page on Monday morning, I noticed that a printer I'd ordered with the MBP was showing "delivered" with an unknown name as signatory. I notified Apple, they contacted UPS, who managed to recover the printer and get it to us a few hours later. The MBP is still AWOL, however, and now I'm waiting through the 72-hour period that Apple gives UPS to run a trace. I can't express my disappointment. The only token consolation I get is that the German f*er who (probably) stole it has to deal with a US keyboard!;)

Would Apple be able to trace these once hooked up to the Internet?

If they attempt to register it Apple will get the SN and IP address at a minimum. That assumes the people that have it are dumb enough to register it. More then likely they would sell it to get rid of it and collect cash.

More then likely it is not stolen, but lost in shipping. Happens all the time.

Did it happen in New Zealand? When you said AK I am thinking of Auckland. I got mine iMac after 1 month of waiting !!!

Didn't order through Apple store though but still they said my iMac was left in the shipping container and no one picked it up !!!!!!!!!

My iMac didn't arrive on its original scheduled date either and it has to go from China to Alaska to TN then to two different depots in Ontario before it came to my door.

Their site states 8 to 10 days for shipping. So even if it is showing a "Estemated" delivery date of 4 days from order (for arguments sake we will say 4 days) then you can expect it to take as long as 6 additional days.

My Mac arrived with a dead Optical grrr I hope you have better results on yours.

Well here is the outcome....

I waited the three days as instructed and called back today. The rep was very nice. I mentioned compensation for my misfortune and he said certainly.

He first offered me speakers for my iMac. I said no thanks and he said there were other things he could offer. I stopped him there because it popped into my head that the way I ordered my computer it was only missing the 3GHz processor to be a stock unit. I did this intentionally because "I" did not feel the 200MHz was worth the $180 upgrade fee.

By requesting the upgraded processor for free I was able to have an iMac shipped right away overnight and not from China but from California.

So in the end I will receive a free upgrade to the 3.06GHz processor and have my computer Monday or Tuesday.

* Remember this is just a processor upgrade. Everything else, video card, hard drive I already paid for *

I'm very happy with the response apple provided and most important the response I was able to receive from the representative that answered the phone. Apple obviously hires qualified people that are trusted to make decisions in their first level support. So many companies just hire secretaries to answer the phone and all they know is the word no.

Thanks Apple! I own iPods, iPhones, just bought Apple TV and will hook it up when my new iMac arrives! oh, and mobile me!
