Hello, all. I ordered a new iPhone 13 from Best Buy's website on December 5. Best Buy shipped it to me with FedEx. FedEx claims it was delivered on December 6. I checked our surveillance video recorded during the period of time from a few minutes before the time of purported delivery to a few minutes after; absolutely nobody had approached our door. A FedEx delivery van had driven by, though.

Anyway, my question for the forum is, can I report the serial number of the lost or stolen iPhone to Apple so that it's flagged in case someone tries to use it with an Apple Account? I just tried to, and ultimately I was transferred to somebody in Apple's sales department who told me to talk to Best Buy, despite me stating that I wanted to provide the serial number to Apple. 😒

If FedEx messed up legitimately then the phone may eventually make its way back to Best Buy, and then they might sell it to a different customer. That customer will then end up with a phone reported lost/stolen.

If a FedEx employee nicked it then that's obviously another matter. But ultimately it's Best Buy's responsibility to get a phone to you, so you should be following up with them.

Thanks. Yes, of course, I have contacted Best Buy (as well as FedEx). I'm still waiting for an email notifying me that a replacement is being shipped.

No, Apple doesn’t flag serials as stolen based on customer reports. Way to easy to abuse that system, they’ll only flag devices stolen directly from Apple.
