Hi,

After my previous post i have had lot's of negative feedback, so i would like to see if this is any better, and see if i get any positive feedback.

This is a logo i designed based on a Restaurant i ate at in Portugal and yes Restaurante is supposed to have the e on the end, so don't say i made a mistake.

Here is it.

*FIXED: gap between 'r' and 'a' and a slight different colour scheme.*

Thanks.

What's a Restaur ante?

Sorry... kern in that 'r' and 'a'.

I'd color that black background or delete it all together.

Otherwise... it's fun... it's fine.

Color the trees and the word restaurant and it would be even more fun.

Thanks for the reply, what colour would you recommend changing the trees and restaurante?

EDIT: Added another colour scheme.

Not quite sure what the purpose of the sun and palm tree is. If you're going to create a logo mark, make sure that it's meaningful to the business. Right now I'm looking at the logo and can't determine if it's a beach restaurant shack or a italian beach restaurant.

Is this like a bar and grill?

It's like a beach bar, thats what the banner is for, but i got the ideas from a real bar in portugal.

The purpose for the sun and the palm tree is to represent a beach bar.

Why the black background? You are restricting everything to be done with a black background, menu, flyers, ads, cards coupons...etc.

What are you on about mate?
I have been playing around with different colour schemes, and i liked this one most, don't have a go because it has a black background.

PS. If you dont think it looks right recommend me some colour scheme's!

The background shouldn't really be part of the overall color scheme.

I'm guessing that you're doing this just for fun - and that's a good thing. But, you still should ask yourself how this logo could potentially be implemented. How does it look on a business card? How does it look on signage when you're driving by at 40mph? How does it look on cocktail napkins?

Personally, I think that you're using a very poor choice for a font. It's not easy to read. Secondly, the positioning and sizing of "Restaurante" below "Scooby's" is just awkward. My eye isn't quite sure what to read first. Finally, the positioning of the text relative to the sun and palm tree seems arbitrary. Why are the sun and palm tree separate elements from the text? Are they even part of the logo? The entire thing lacks cohesion.

If you're looking for some inspiration, go check out logopond. There is some amazing work on that site. But the most common aspect of all of the logos is simplicity.

Try a white background first.

You have to think about how this will look on every medium, not just the screen when you are making the logo. How will this look on a white/transparent background when you put this as an ad in a newspaper, signage in the front door, menu and etc... Are you going to have everything as a black background, even takeout boxes/bags?

Thanks guys,

I do get what both are you are saying yeah, i guess i didn't put that much thought in to it, but i only did it as a little experiment, and i still have the PSD file and i do still play around with it to see what looks good, the only reason i uploaded them 2 was so people could give me points to improve on it, because im still learning :)

Everybody starts somewhere! :]

I appreciate it though guys, Cheers!

Maybe some constructive criticism

Hi iMacBoy,

Don't let these other people get you down. Here's some stuff you might be able to work with:

The most important thing about a logo is shape, so we should focus on that. In a way, they're right about the black; let's remove it and just get the shapes right on a white background first.

In the word mark part of your logo, you're definitely getting the kerning better in the 2nd version, but I think that "Restaurante" sticks out a little too far to the left. It ALMOST says "Restaurante Scooby's". Not completely, but it's just wrong enough that it should be adjusted. So I'd recommend shrinking down "Restaurante" a little so it doesn't jut out quite as far to the left. Nice restraint on not doing multiple fonts, by the way. It's not my favourite font, but it captures the idea of a beach restaurant well enough for now.

As for the image: your logo won't always be at the bottom of a screen or tied to a masthead, so I'd figure out a nice way for your trees to end. Are their bottoms a little staggered to show one is closer to the bottom or should they end in some other way? I'd suggest something where they're not just cut off straight. Also, the style of the trees and the sun clash. The trees are far more realistic in their silhouettes and the sun is far more symbolic and illustrative. Personally, I like the style of the trees a little more, so I'd figure out a way to make the sun a little more on the realistic side. Maybe it should just be a circle that's barely popping out of the tops of the trees.

Overall, we really need to find a way to bind all these elements together into one cohesive whole. Right now there's nothing besides your black rectangle to tie your picture elements to your text. If you have Adobe Illustrator, you could also play around with mesh warp or typing on a curve, just to play into that easy-going playful feeling I'm getting from your fonts.

Don't use the same font for both words. It looks like you want Scooby's to stand out but by using the same font as restaurante, but it's blending in too much. Use a thicker more unique font for Scooby's. Also, drop the extra "e" at the end of Restaurante, if it's a fun beachy place using that extra "e" doesn't work right.

As for the palm trees and sun, they're OKAY but they are cropped out. Your logo needs to be transitional to other mediums: business cards, banners, t-shirts, the menu.

Hope that helped.
