Hi everyone!

My name is Long and I work as an Illustrator and Editor at Volvo Construction Equipment in Sweden.

Since the App Store first ever launched in 2008 I've always dreamed about creating my own app, but with the lack of programming skills and motivation to learn Objective C and Xcode, I had to put my dream aside.. until now! :D

Yesterday I just got my very first iPhone app approved! The app is called Flappy Long, and it's a game inspired by the Flappy Bird game that you either love or hate. Personally I hated the game at the beginning, and couldn't possibly understand what the hype was all about. But after some time I gave it another try and now I'm hooked, haha.

So I decided to create my own Flappy Bird type of game, but I wanted to add some originality to it - It's never fun to just create a clone version! Instead of following a predestined path (set by the tunnels), my version adds Rubik's cubes running at different speeds, and a dangerous character called Sizo (based on my colleague at work ;)). The objective of the game is to save as many girls as possible and avoid crashing into the Rubik's cubes, the ground, top of the sky or Sizo.

I'm really a newbie when it comes to app developing, and been only developing for about 3 weeks. 4 weeks ago I didn't know anything about Objective C or how to create an app for that matter, and been only learning through tutorials on Youtube. The app was done in Xcode 6 and I used Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and the app FaceQ to create all the graphics.

The purpose of this thread is mainly to get feedback on my app so I can improve on it further, and to promote it! :)

My app is available on App Store for free! Click on this link to download: https://appsto.re/se/bQwG3.i

What do you guys think? (Please be gentle! ;))

Currently one are awarded different amount of points depending on what iPhone screen size you are on, and the game speed seems to be slightly faster on the smaller screen sized iPhones as well. I'll try to fix this for the next update!

Cheers!

/Long

You need some music or sound effects. ;)

I like it though, interesting take. The art style is varied, but it works well together. I'm not sure about using Impact for the text, but you have the right feel with using a solid color with a black outline.

I like Sizo. :D

Thanks for your feedback! You're totally right! The game needs music, or at least some sound effects. I'm planning on adding music and sound effects for a future update, but want to get the scoring done correctly first. Plus, it will take some time to compose the music. Anyone knows a good app to to do so?

That is correctly spotted! I've been too busy making the app compatible with all iPhone sizes including the new 6 and 6 plus that I've forgotten to put more effort on the font (Impact). I'll make some design changes for the next update!

I'm glad you like Sizo :). He has become one of my best friends.

A new update for Flappy Long is here! :)

Version 1.1:
- Flappy Long is now a universal app and works on all iOS devices! (All iPhones, including iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, iPod Touch, and iPad)
- The game speed and scoring is now the same on all devices.
- App video preview added.

Please remove Flappy Long if it's already installed and download the updated version to reset the old high score. Let me know what you think!

For those of you who wonder what the heck the rubik's cubes are doing in my app, here is why.. I'm a rubik's cube nerd!
