First time going this route for me, if I choose monthly pay I can still pay it off in a few months with no interest after I get my trade in credits, is that correct? Second option is if I choose the pay in full then I’m guessing I’d be charged interest after the first month? Basically however I do it I want a couple months to pay in order for my trade in credit to be applied. Am I missing something?

YES, this is what I am doing this year compared to the past.

Last 3 years I would use the Citizen's One Loan for 24 months 0% but this year I decided to pay off the loan a year early in anticipation of the new 12.

This year I took advantage of the Apple Card for 24 months and 3% cash back ($30).

Put the $30 cash back against the taxes owed on the new phone and will pay off the 12 in 1 year making double monthly payments so the new model phone next year I will be trading her in.

Or maybe even better yet... if you have either a Chase Freedom or Discover It card, they have rotating 5% categories (on up to $1500 spent per quarter) and PayPal shows up at least once per year on each. My last few Apple purchases have all been online using PayPal for 5% back. Both of those cards come with 0% apr intro periods too.

I have Discover and it says 5% but only for Walmart, Amazon and Target purchases....
As for PayPal - I have the debit and credit cards - how does that work for 5%?

Discover had 5% off PayPal purchases in July-September, so it ended last month

Now Chase Freedom Unlimited is 5% off PayPal until the end of December. So that's a solid 6 months of 5% off PayPal between the two...and im pretty sure Chase did the PayPal for another quarter earlier this year also. So 9 months of 5% back on PayPal in 2020 if you have both of those cards.

As for the PayPal cards, I don't know, I don't have those

I always use my Apple card when I buy new iPhones. The 3% cash back adds up nicely on an $1100 phone. It's $33 of free money that I can use towards buying one of their overpriced phone cases.

the amount of free moneyextra depends on whatcomarin to. Only an extra $16 compared to my capital one card. Which doesn’t offer 24months 0 %. I did the installments but will probably cave and pay it off way early.

The monthly Apple Card iPhone preorder deal is 0%APR, so there isn’t interest either way. Its like being on a carrier lease, but directly through apple and no funny tricks like carriers sometimes do.

If he doesn’t do installments then there is interest if not paid in full.

What do you guys think about upgrading between using TM (any carrier) or just direct at Apple using the 24 0% card?

I have a $140 TM One for 4 lines family plan and not sure I want to be locked for another 30 months. It's not so bad value and the Netflix perk is nice. It's a tough decision because of the $300 trade-in credit from TM for each of the two iphone 7, I am upgrading it's quite a bit more than selling myself. Oh, boy decisions.

I might go Apple card just not to be tied with any carrier forever. Just wondering what most of you believe is best.

Depends on your future with TM - if you love them and plan on sticking around for another 2-1/2 years then the carrier deal is very good.

I have been a TM customer for over 6 years and love them for their international data service (when I used to be able to fly)....

This year, I went from carrier to Apple using the Apple Card because of the 24 month 0% and 3% cash back.

If next year's model is stunning, then I will pay off the balance and trade it in for the newer shinier model....

Yep, TM has been alright. I don’t think $35 per line unlimited is actually bad. I might continue with them and take advantage the trade in.

When I used my Apple Card last year to buy the iPhone 11, I did 24 monthly installments 0 interest and did a trade in. Apple Card will take your trade in off the balance and give you 3% cash back up front. If you get Apple Care, it will include that to your balance and you will get 3% cash back for that too. Your balance and monthly payment will reflect the trade in already. Then you send your trade in to them. If they don't receive your trade in, they will add that value back to your balance. You are not locked into the carrier this way. You can pay it off at anytime. Just be aware that the balance will be deducted from your available credit and will report on you credit report the full balance.

Isn't T-Mobile giving $530 trade in for iPhone 7's for 30 month installment? That is a very good trade in value.

Thanks everyone for all the good info, I will go with the 24 month 0 apr and just pay it off in a few months. I think I’m also going with the sim free model so I can just put my current sim in the new one and not fork out $40 to Verz for the crazy upgrade fee.

Last year the AC installments were a brand new thing and they gave us 6% cash back through December. I ordered the Sim Free version, but when I got it, it was not on the installment plan and was charged the full price. Had to take it to the Apple store and return it and re-order my carrier ATT version. Hopefully that is worked out this year. Let us know?
