Few Questions for new iPhone UK

I will be receiving a unlocked iPhone 8GB 1.1.4 tomorrow that I purchased from Ebay. I plan to put my T-Mobile UK sim in it and I have a few questions for the iPhone geniuses out there

1. Will I be able to use email and Safari on the go with my T-Mobile sim?

2. I am told I won't be able to use YouTube on the go with a T-Mobile sim, is this true and can anyone think of any other problems I may run in to with having it unlocked?

3. To avoid software update issues, do I just change the settings in iTunes to prevent it installing a new software update as I am new to this?

4. If anything ever went wrong, is it possible to restore the iPhone using iTunes then use the "Ziphone" or "Pwnage" apps to get it back to unlocked status? Is this method easy for a beginner to iPhones?

5. When the new iPhone software version 2 is released in June and the apps mentioned above are able to hack it, do you think it will be easy to upgrade 1.1.4 to 2 using them apps?

6. Is it true that unlocked iPhones won't be recognized after putting the serial number into Apple's support section to check the warranty as they haven't been registered through the iTunes process for getting a AT&T or O2 account?

7. If I had hardware problems what would I do with an unlocked iPhone about getting it fixed by Apple?

8. Any advice or tips about my new iPhone in the post today (1am here)?

If you enter your network settings on the iPhone - get them by doing a search for them on these forums... then yes you can BUT think of your phone bill!

YouTube ONLY works if you have Wi-Fi or EDGE - T-mobile doesn't have EDGE (which is a faster version of GPRS) only O2 and Orange do. So unless you have wi-fi access you won't be able to use youtube.

3. To avoid software update issues, do I just change the settings in iTunes to prevent it installing a new software update as I am new to this?

iTunes asks you if you want to update - if you click NO it won't update. Simple.

Be aware however that when you restore it ALWAYS updates to the latest version unless you use the shift + restore button to chose the firmware you want (which is what you do when using pwnage).

4. If anything ever went wrong, is it possible to restore the iPhone using iTunes then use the "Ziphone" or "Pwnage" apps to get it back to unlocked status? Is this method easy for a beginner to iPhones?

FORGET ZiPhone. ZiPhone will BREAK your phone - don't touch it ever!

I don't know how your phone was unlocked but most likely it has been changed from its factory bootloader if it was unlocked *bootloader is the security to stop the unlock AND new phone have version 4.6 but ZiPhone/iLiberty+ (unlocking software both of them) change the bootloader to 3.9 which is non-standard on new phones.

Pwnage lets you unlock and put the bootloader back to its correct settings. So use pwnage.

5. When the new iPhone software version 2 is released in June and the apps mentioned above are able to hack it, do you think it will be easy to upgrade 1.1.4 to 2 using them apps?

Pwnage is ALREADY able to hack 2.0 beta versions- and it is the only method to hack the 2.0 final versions - but it does need an update after 2.0 is out officially to work!

Pwnage is very easy - you just pwn your phone ONCE *unless you restore using the original apple firmware* then you can install the custom firmware which is unlocked and activated already.

6. Is it true that unlocked iPhones won't be recognized after putting the serial number into Apple's support section to check the warranty as they haven't been registered through the iTunes process for getting a AT&T or O2 account?

Apple doesn't know if they are unlocked - all they know is the phone is not activated on O2 and they specifically WILL NOT SERVICE/WARRANTY phones that are not activated. It will see your serial number but say it has no warranty because its not activated!

Under UK law that is most probably illegal but unless you want to take them to court I would just never expect warranty for your phone.

7. If I had hardware problems what would I do with an unlocked iPhone about getting it fixed by Apple?

NOTHING!

If your phone is faulty within 30 days you can change it - it doesn't have to be activated but after that unless you sign up on an O2 contract you won't get warranty.

Having said that if the choice is signing up for an O2 contract for £35 a month (that you can cancel within 14 days and not pay for) or buying a new phone - I would sign up go to Apple change the phone and come home and cancel it!

Rememeber if you ever do go to apple you need to restore your iPhone using official iphone firmware and relock it so they don't know it was ever hacked.

If they ask why you didn't use it before - then say it was a gift - they can't avoid that!

Thats not actually true...if you put your serial number and country as UK into the Apple support page it returns:
"Our records indicate this product has not been activated. Learn how to activate your iPhone.
Please note that warranty service is not dependent on activating your iPhone.
For more information, please contact us."

Under UK law that is most probably illegal but unless you want to take them to court I would just never expect warranty for your phone.

Under UK law Apple ARE obliged to repair any iphone hardware problems under the Sale of Goods Act.

Rememeber if you ever do go to apple you need to restore your iPhone using official iphone firmware and relock it so they don't know it was ever hacked.

As long as you can return the iphones software to its original state then Apple must repair any legitimate hardware faults.
If you brick your iphone through failed unlocking etc then you are basically on your own.
