Having noticed that in the last 2 weeks, there have been fewer posts regarding Alu iMac bad screen issues and having seen some really decent photos, it feels like there may be an overall improvement in quality. I'm not convinced that the issues were necessarily widespread but a lack of posts on the issue feels like a good thing and with iMac no.4 having just been shipped I'm feeling quite upbeat.:)

People have got tired of moaning about it, that's all!

It's an adequate screen and you don't notice any colour shift after a few days. It's just the LG Philips screens that Apple have bought. They are what they are.

I took my 24" iMac in yesterday and when I explained about the screen problem, the guy at the Apple store told me that he was aware of the issue, that I was not the first and said that they would be probably be replacing my screen. I'm back using my old Dell which now belongs to my other half :(

One's thing for sure, I'm certainly missing the Mac and OS X.

I don't know when I'll be getting it back, he said somewhere between one to two weeks. Shame Apple don't do on site, next day service in this part of the world.

No, they're just a little less noticable in the blizzard of frozen iMac complaints and failed "fixes."

Uh, EVERY Apple Cinema Display uses an LG.Philips panel:

20" ACD (M9177) LG.Philips S-IPS (LM201W01)
23" ACD (M9178) LG.Philips S-IPS (LM230W02)
30" ACD (M9179) LG.Philips S-IPS (LM300W01)

"Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please."
- Mark Twain

After the updates and Leopard I have no freezes

So it worked for me. I only got it in playing CC3 made for mac which I bought at the same time I bought my iMac at the apple store.

What's your point? We're talking iMacs here:

Mid_2007 24" iMac: LG.Philips LM240WU2-SLB1, S-IPS, 8-bit
Late_2006 24" iMac: LG.Philips LM240WU2-SLA1, S-IPS, 8-bit
Mid_2007 20" iMac: LG.Philips LM201WE3-????, TN Film, 6-bit
Late_2006 20" iMac: Samsung LTM201M1-????, S-PVA, 8-bit
20" ACD & G5 iMac: LG.Philips LM201W01-SLA3, S-IPS, 8-bit

The iMacs don't necessarily use the same panel as the cinema display and the thousands of panels bought from LG aren't faulty - they just happen to have a poor viewing angle and less than perfect colour shift.

Leon was distorting his facts first, before he got them straight, as usual. Maybe he needs to read his own quotes. :p

Yes, there are far fewer posts on screen issues, and many people getting perfectly working 24" iMacs now. It seems like if there were still a high rate of new buyers getting issues, they would search the web, come here, and post their problems. It is not like a new iMac buyer with a problem is going to know that the issues were already discussed here or that the freezing issue are dominating the discussion - no way they could even know that - they are going to post here and get input from others. The fact that fewer of those are happening, and more people are actively reporting good working screens, is clear evidence that the tide had turned.

Good luck with your next one, Kuska - please let us know how it turns out......

Exactly, for the first part! I still notice it and will ask for a replacement though.
