Hi All,

The latest iMacs still don't come with USB-C input and no USB 3.1 gen2 support.
However, the Thunderbolt 2 speed can easily handle 3.1 gen2 speeds, but i haven't seen anywhere a mentions that such a adapter does or will exist.

All is mentioned is that Thunderbolt 3 will be fully compatible with USB-C, but what is stopping current thunderbolt 2 working with future 3.1 gen2 devices using an adapter?
Is there a technical limitation that doesn't allow that or will we be able to take advantage of upcoming USB 3.1 gen2 devices?

Thanks

YC

First, there is likely to be an adapter as these things always show up (having lived through two generations of firewire and now 3+ generations of USB). But I can't imagine any USB 3.1 Gen 2 device that can actually use that speed that wouldn't have a thunderbolt port as well.

Pretty much any RAID stripped SSD that would require a 3.1 /2 port would be thunderbolt compatible as well, or if for some reason it is not, you could just make sure you buy one that is.

Just don't even think about it there will be endless adapters and backwards compatability for about the next decade just like there has been with USB 2&3.
