The message that iOS shows in the Files app is misleading (unfortunately we can't control that) because right now FileBrowser runs in the background to perform all network operations. Switching to FileBrowser just restarts the app if iOS has stopped it, so you can then just switch back (using the iOS status bar back-to-app button is quickest). Working this way gives security benefits (particularly in VPN environments, plus the credentials and keys don't leave the FileBrowser process) but we'll be expanding the options in later updates here for those who value increased convenience!

so what exactly is the solution to the authentication problem? 2020 and still having this issue! Very frustrating and pointless to have Filebroswer if this is not possible to work properly because backup is the main purpose for having the app. Tired of this problem now.

I’m so frustrated, having the same problem and it’s 2020! First it didn’t work, then yesterday it worked, now again it doesn’t work! FileBrowser connects to the SMB Drive directly from its “home” tab networks, but when trying to either connect via the Files app plugin (activated fire FBB of course), then is get this error of authentication by FBB needed And can’t access the SMB through files app via FBB. And nor can I created Backups to the SMB because I get error message From within the FBB app, “server can’t be found” when trying to create a backup from a folder/files context menu. Even although at the same time I CAN access the same SMB via the FBB homepage network button. Very very frustrated. Expected more from the FB for Business app! Screenshot attached.
