Hi all. I'm after a recommendation for an app that will do two things;
1. Take any file I give it as an input and search across a specific file or volume for any other file that is actually the same but might have been renamed, or might be a duplicate of the original.
I'd like it to be able to do that with any file type possible but certainly text documents, (ince presentations or spreadsheets), images or PDFs.

Is that at all possible and if so what should I shortlist?

Thanks.

I don't know of an app that does precisely what you specify. But you can get the same result, by using one of the many apps which will search one or more folders or volumes for all duplicates. Once you have the duplicates, apps then let you search for specific files and/or file types.

I have two such apps installed but which I don't use very often. Both from the Mac App Store: "Duplicate Detective: Cleaner" and "Duplicate File Finder Remover" (also Pro version). Start there, but you can find lots of others.

Many thanks for that sir. I’ll do some googling later on and see what I get.
