File count in directory

When I a Cmd I on a folder, it shows me size 14.3mb for 39 items. When I open the folder, it shows 38 items on the status bar at the bottom of the window. Why such a discrepancy? Thanks

That usually means 'hidden' files are included, like .DS_Store

Is there an option not to include hidden files in the count?

Both counts are correct. When you Get info on a Folder the folder its self is an item, open the folder and it tells you how many items are inside the folder
