I use mozilla firefox with an addon which can download videos from youtube and then I extract the audio portion. When I play it with Quicktime or Music then the song is double in length and the last half is silence. However, when I use VLC player and play the song then it is the expected length with no silence for a long ending stretch. What is the cause of this phenomenon?

I highly suggest you use the app "Downie" for downloading videos or downloading only the audio from videos. It works perfectly. It is a great app that I and many here have been using for years. Great developer support as well. There is a free 14 day trial.

* If you are trying to download music or video that has built in DRM, Downie will not work nor will other valid apps.

Been using Youtube to MP3 for years. Works flawlessly and imports to Music app too.
