I’m looking for a file browser app that supports the Sandisk iXpand USB drive.

What I’m wanting to do is on my iPhone/iPad copy from my NAS to the USB drive.

I use FileBrowser and works for everything, but you need the pro version for iXpand support.

Found FE explorer, but this supports iXpand, but NAS support costs.

I won’t use it extensively, so ideally want a free version that works if possible.

Anyone know of an app please? The iXpand app just allows the iXpand itself. The iOS files app doesn’t seem (although iXpand is integrated/supported) to allow me to copy to the iXpand as it just opens up the iXpand app when clicking on it.

Thanks

Just saw your post. Did you ever find out what the deal was with this?

Ended up just buying FileExplorer pro app. It also allowed multiple connections, NAS and iXpand etc.

Thanks for that. Heard lots of horror stories about the drive draining the phone battery really fast. Is that your experience too?

Don’t use it too long to notice tbh. It does get bit warm, and imagine it does drain a bit battery as will be powered by phone.

I’ve never really used extensively, maybe a movie tin the past, but have enough space to copy to my iPhone memory now.

It’s still a good and handy device while we have lightning port, be better when they go USB-C expect though.

Do you have an iXpand drive as well?

Not yet. Just trying to decide which one to buy.
I keep an all metal flash drive on my key ring as the previous plastic ones have all broken.
Am looking at this and the Leef iAccess thingy.
This one;

Seen them, basically the same thing, but I think iXpand is updated more, and has more integration into apps.

I see. Not sure which way to turn then.

Decided yet? Think both are fine. I went with Sandisk as good deal on it at time, and thought they’d hopefully keep up with app updates. This is only problem. Got stung with another drive like this and app now won’t work so it’s a brick

Ah I see. I hadn’t pulled the trigger yet. Might go with the iXpand.
Incredibly frustrating how locked down the OS is.

It is, getting better though can use USB sticks now, not sure how it would work without an app in iOS 13. iPad can use so not sure if they are native now.

I could delete the Sandisk iXpand app I suppose and see if works

Ah. Now that would be very useful. I do wish iOS had a proper finder or a terminal that would enable power user features.

I agree in some ways, but others not. As it’s “locked” down means stuff can’t run that could damage/crash phone.

To me all I want to do is copy files to/from and have video files on to play.

Most apps can play video apps, free ones VLC can access etc so it’s fine for what I need

I get that but my computer has all of that functionality. Not had those problems on it yet.

iPhone/iPad isn’t a computer though. There is still loads iPhone/iPad can’t do, still need a computer in my opinion. It’s a very good extension and can do MOST what a computer but not all.

Deleted iXpand app. The inbuilt iOS files app couldn’t see the iXpand app now.

The FE explorer app could see it and copy/paste/view files fine.

So it could be used without iXpand app via 3rd party app, but seem to need Sandisk app for Files.
