File loss after installing Yosemite

Hi All,

I installed the beta this weekend and it was working great. My mid 2010 MBP ran out of battery and after charging, it would not turn back on. the while light on the front came on, and the HD made a noise like it was turning on but then the screen remained black and nothing happened.

After bringing it to Apple, the rep restores me to 10.9.4 Mavericks and this process wiped all my files off my computer.

Is there anyway to get my files back (music, photos, word, excel?) I did not have them backed up.

No, if you don't have them backed up, they're probably gone. There are services that undelete/restore files that were previously deleted but you need to stop using the computer (using the computer reduces the odds on recovery) and then contract a company to try to restore your data.

I don't have any specific recommendations, as I never needed this sort of service.

If you don't have a backup, you're just about out of luck. There are data recovery services available, but from what I've heard, they're very expensive.

Be sure to implement a back up solution so you don't get caught in a situation like this again.

You are just being nice since backing up has nothing to do with luck and all to do with common sense.

Data Recovery for Mac.

It's helped me a few times. it scan hard drives, flash drives, memory cards and iPods for deleted photos, emails, videos and other documents. It then gives you a list of what it finds along in tree view, from which you can preview the data found and perform selective deleted file recovery.

It could take hours or days, depending.
