Why won't my apple tv 2 play this file. I used handbrake apple tv preset to convert. It shows up in the list of TV Shows of my Apple TV 2, but when I click on play it loads a portion of the file, but only shows the first frame and is stuck on pause.

does it have chapters? I recently ran into this. The movies played fine in itunes and iOS, but refused to play on the AppleTV 2. I would get the spinning wheel when I selected it, and then it would drop back to the Movie menu. After changing the profile, 'optimizing' the movie in Subler, etc, I finally noticed the movie lacked chapters and, using subler, added them.

Bingo. Movie now plays in AppleTV.

Maybe dynaflash will chime in here.

Well ... I thought the frame rate range was suspect as well. However a HB activity log on pastebin.com and linked here from the encode would be immensely helpful.

Nevertheless. Peak frame rate is in the nightlies for HB (didn't exist in 0.9.5). So, if its a framerate issue ... using a HB nightly you can specify say 29.976 for a peak framerate if the device (like the atv2) has a framerate limitation.

All presets for apple in the nightlies use peak frame rate.

What it basically means is that HB will use the sources framerate as long as it doesn't exceed the specified Peak Frame Rate. If it does HB will drop frames to stay within the specified Peak Frame Rate limit to maintain compliance.

Without a proper HB activity log to look at I am just spitballing here but its where I'd start looking.

</chiming in>.

:)

Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully I can get around to trying them soon.
