Can someone tell me where to find information about iTunes ability to backup files on my iPhone? what files get backed up? how can i recover them? i restored my iphone to try to fix some battery issues and all my data was lost. Nothing seemed to be recovered from previous syncs. any ideas?

i restored from a backup a couple weeks ago out of curiosity. i found it funny, because it looked like none of it was backed up. none of my settings, email, text messages or pictures (from the camera roll). it was a bit upsetting.

Thats what i have found from my experience. My text messages did seem to come through, but they're about all that was restored. I lost my pictures, and all my other data had to be added again.

Why would the backup store pics, email (if using IMAP), contacts and "other data" all of these can be recoverd by resynching.

I think backup is only for settings, text messages and such

i had heard the your current roll was stored as well as you new bookmarks, clocks, weather citys, etc. None of which were restored for me.

sent mail, for instance, wouldn't be synced with itunes, and it'd be nice to have on the backup.

*edit*
update: i decided to restore again, and it saved almost everything (still didn't save sent email). the only things i had to do over were email and wifi passwords and youtube bookmarks. everything else was kept the same.
