Newb here,

I have a 24 inch Imac version 10.6 and a hp g62 laptop running win 7
I have successfully networked the 2 together.
My problem is that I can see folders, files etc from the pc on my mac, but when I try to open a folder on the pc from the mac I get a network error on the pc

that says: Windows cannot access \\IMAC-E16BF6\Public Folder
you do not have permission to access \\IMAC-E16BF6\Public Folder.Contact your network administrator to request access.

I feel that I am missing something simple, but I guess I'm too dumb to figure it out! So that's why joined here to get some good advice.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

nevermind, was thinking it was the other direction.

I tend to use the same username and password on both machines so connections tend to be flawless as a result.

You might want to consider a Dropbox account.

Makes file sharing very easy.

I used to see a folder named Dropbox in my public folder on the Imac, but it's not there on my account, but it still shows on my sons account. I also get the same error message when I try to open his folders.
I also might add that I recently installed Mac keeper and thought it might be causing the problem so I turned it off and no change.how do I get the Dropbox back into my public folder,Do I need to just make a new folder with that name?

No, I meant dropbox.

https://www.dropbox.com/ (feel free to use this link so we can get extra space =) http://db.tt/Qrz7dWk )

I have never found any of that crap like "mac trapperkeeper" worth anything.

If you think you need something like that, try Onyx, its free. But you wont notice a difference before or after running either of them.

As my daddy used to say: If it aint broke, then dont try and fix it.

I gave up trying to share folders between my MBP, wife's Mini and our old Windows machines. So I plugged a USB drive into an Airport Extreme. Works great for TM backups and swapping folders between all computers.
