File Sharing errors Windows 7 and OS X

I just added a small atom machine running windows 7 home premium to my network of 4 macs. I have a odd problem, when transferring my itunes library for the mac to the Win 7 machine it will stop on various errors, most say the file xxx could not be read. I have better success mounding on the mac share on the windows machine and transferring but still will get a error saying it can't read that file type. I tried coping the same files at work to a xp machine and have no problem. I also loaded a evaluation copy of Windows home server on the PC and the files copy fine. So I think the problem must be with windows 7. My windows 7 machine is setup to use a work network (never liked that home group stuff). I am at a lost of what to check next. Any ideas?

You are doing something most new users make mistakes on. If I were you I would do several things (that I already do) is first get windows to bend to OS X by buying MacDrive for my Windows 7.

Then I moved my iTunes Library to a networked drive that I could plug to my router's USB2 port. And then shared that drive to anyone on the network (follow the simple steps of Moving your iTunes Media folder) and moved my iTunes Library to it. Now if I buy a iTunes move/music/book it goes directly to the networked drive. This way any song bought on any local networked computer and all the computers can see it.

Then Apple setup Home Sharing and you could go that way.

Thanks for the idea but there are other files I need to move and access to and from the windows 7 machine. It is running 24/7 as a torrent seeding box so I was hoping to also use it as a file server also. I really did not want to spend the money on windows home server because I really only want to do two things with this box. Seed torrents and have a central storage location. I thought windows 7 should be able to handle that.

The SMB on OSX, in particular SMB Client is known to have some issues with Win7 CIFS implementation. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done about it.

I have had the exact same issue since Win7 was released. Unfortunately I have never been able to resolve it. If it makes you feel any better, I get the same problem with Linux SMB clients also.

Windows 7/Server 2008/Vista went to SMB 2.0.

SP1 for Win7 addresses a few SMB 2.0 issues so first I'd make sure your running that.

We have a customer who runs into database corruption talking between 2 2008 R2 servers due to SMB 2.0 issues.

Easiest thing, turn it off:

Instructions are the same on Vista/7/etc...etc...

Turn it off and see if it helps, it just reverts back to 1.0 like XP. Personally never had the problem with Vista/2008, but have seen it in 7/R2.
