File vault 2 and cloud services

Hi people,

I would like to encrypt my hard drives using BitLocker and File Vault 2 on my two PCs. One is Windows 8.1 and the other OSX Yosemite.

But I'm also using Dropbox, Jottacloud and Onedrive cloud services. Some folders are shared with other people who're not using encryption.

So my question is, if i encrypt my disk on one PC, can I still access the files in, i.e., dropbox on the other unencrypted/encrypted PCs?

Just wanna remind you that these encryption service do not protect your files on the cloud. They are designed to protect the file system from unauthorised virtual and physical access, while being transparent to everything else you run in the OS. Dropbox is running in the unlocked environment, reading out OS-decrypted data from the file system. So your Dropbox stuff is in fact synced as raw files as if you are not using FileVault (the physical copy on your drive is encrypted though), unless you further encrypt them on your own.

The disk is encrypted so no prying eyes can access the data, but once you enter the proper userid/password the operating system then decrypts the files on the fly.
