Fileaid to Fileapp, no more USB! Curse you Apple!!!

I´m really pissed off now at Apple. Why are they "persecuting" and now actually banning USB transfers Mac--->iPhone--->Mac ??? :mad: Only Wi-Fi allowed and promoted, which some people like me don´t have and don´t even like to use.

PLEASE NOTE : The ability offered by the combination of both products DiskAid and FileAid, allowing the fast USB transfer files to devices and the possibility to browse those files using FileAid on the device will be discontinued starting from the next update of FileApp.

Unfortunately we were told by Apple to remove that functionality from FileAid based on the current SDK license agreement. Apple is aware of the drawbacks of such a removal and we hope they will offer an alternative in the next future, although we were given no sign of it.

Judging from the link you provided, I'm gonna have to guess it violated the terms of the SDK license.....
 
ReaddleDocs allows transfers over USB and nobody is forcing you to update anyway.

No poop Sherlock. ;) Yes, but why why why? Apple has written their SDK "laws", no one else. So why are they "persecuting" and now banning the USB transfers?
It´s one of the most useful functions on iPhone that I use all the time. They are stupid to think that EVERYONE uses Wi-Fi. USB transfer is very convenient.

ReaddleDocs allows transfers over USB and nobody is forcing you to update anyway.

Well ReaddleDocs should be banned then as well. If not, Apple is practicing hypocrisy.

Of course I won´t update, ´cause after that I wouldn´t be able to use the app at all. But I´m now going to miss a lot of new functions and bug fixes! :mad:

Buy ReaddleDocs. It's a much better app.
 
Diskaid is the main prog that installs on the pc. Use v1.5 (still available, google it). You don't need fileaid unless you want to view the files on the iphone.

Maybe you´re not understanding the point of this topic. It´s not about apps, what´s better, what´s not... It´s about Apple´s stupid policy to persecute and ban USB transfers.

And why would I buy ReaddleDocs, if the USB transfer is against Apple´s SDK "laws"? So most likely ReaddleDocs´s USB transfer is going to be banned by Apple just like Fileaid´s.

I already told that I am using Fileaid with USB transfer and the only way to do it is with Diskaid installed and I have it installed on my several Macs.

But there´s a new major update to Fileaid and the name is changed to Fileapp. With this update comes lot of new functions and bugfixes, but the catch is, that it drops the ability to transfer files via USB. Which was this apps main thing for me. But now that Apple has persecuted and banned the USB transfer I cannot update! :mad: So I´m losing value for my purchase! (Not much, but in principle I am. I´m a man of principles!).
 
i agree, i think apple has their head so far up their own arse that they cant see whats good and whats bad.

they take away the good and keep in the bad, app store is a prime example, just look at all the useless junk they have in there compared to the few apps that are actualy worth buying.

dont get me wrong i like the phone i just dont think some of the policies they have are exactly helping the phone progress.
 
There is a difference between persecuting and enforcing the rules that are in place. Those rules can change in the future.
 
Without knowing the details, it's hard to say why this violates the SDK agreement, but it's a distinct possibility the original app used a non-public API. Public APIs are fixed but non-public APIs can be changed or dropped at any time. This is why Apple doesn't allow their use and will reject any app they find is using them.

ReaddleDocs may be using some public APIs that don't violate the SDK agreement. Or maybe the next version will have to remove this functionality.

Because it's their SDK toolkit, and their App store, not yours. And thus their security oriented rules in the required agreement.

It's about as much "persecution" as when the cops hauled off that drunk who totaled my friend's car. That she got away with it before is no legal defense.
 
Yes, it sucks to have already updated like I did :mad:. I deleted it after that. I do however still have the older version of FileAid on my iTunes. I don't know how to put back in my iPhone.

By the way, you DO NOT need diskaid for usb access. You can use the free desktop app ifunbox (without jailbraking) to access the diskaid folder.
 
I didn´t update Fileaid fortunately, but I want the new functions and bugfixes of Fileapp (the value for my purchase)! Allow the USB transfer Apple!

It seems Apple is practising hypocrisy, ´cause ReaddleDocs are allowed (or isn´t banned yet) to use USB transfer. But I can´t even switch to ReaddleDocs, because I don´t know their situation... are their USB transfer gonna get banned or not?
 
Got this email this morning. I'm glad they sent this out so people realize how to get the old file back if recently upgraded, or ignore the update :)


As a DiskAid user, you might be using FileAid to view files on your device.
If this is your case you are maybe aware already: we had to upgrade FileAid 1.4 to 1.5 and we changed the name to FileApp, incidentally.

The USB connectivity within FileApp was removed and we did not want that: it was not our choice but the consequence of a decision taken by Apple, nor did we wanted to have to rush to release it.
Besides, all iPhone Apps supporting the USB file transfer will be affected by that.

We were very upset about Apple's decision not to let our users enjoy the simplicity and efficiency of USB file transfer, but we had no choice as you can imagine. We are very sorry about that.

DiskAid (USB transfer tool) is still perfectly functional for file storing and iPhone/iPod Touch filesystem access but FileApp won't let you view your files on the device.

It is probably pretty uncommon, but we would like you NOT to UPGRADE to FileApp in the App Store automatically, but to read the following carefully before:

Why Should you Upgrade:
If you have a jailbreak on your device
If you are a FileAid user only using WiFi connection for transferring files - WiFi connectivity issue fixed

Why You Should NOT Upgrade:
If you are using FileAid on a device without jailbreak in conjunction with DiskAid - USB no longer supported

If you have upgraded on your iPhone by mistake (or you missed the upgrade information notice prior upgrading on your iPhone) you have the ability to downgrade to FileAid if you haven't upgraded within iTunes on your desktop and you haven't performed a sync!

To do so:
1 - Check that you have FileAid in your iPhone apps within iTunes on your computer
2 - Delete the FileApp app from your iPhone (or iPod Touch)
3 - Select FileAid within the app tab in iTunes and press sync
If a message appears warning that you have a more recent version of this app on the device, accept: it will install FileAid instead of FileApp

If you have upgraded to FileApp directly in iTunes on your computer, delete it before sync (if applicable) and the FileAid app will be copied back onto iTunes at next sync.

It is a real issue for us, as the ability to browse files transferred via USB within our iPhone app FileAid was a great feature within the DiskAid program we will sure suffer from that - but we won't let our loyal customers take the blame.

We would naturally refund users that claim for, even beyond our refund policy (up to 60 days).
Also if you had a good time while the trick lasted, or if you feel any sympathy for us and you think that your purchase could subsidize the development and maintenance of the free version of the FileAid/FileApp and you do not request a refund, we would thank you in advance for your support!

alles quatsch!!!

the ipod/phone itself has no "real" usb support(no removable disk mode), so you have to use 3rd party software like diskaid, iphoneexplorer,....

these programs are mostly able to show the root folder of the iphone disk what means that they can show every files on your iphone storage...
so it would be logical for me that your fileapp files, which have to be on that storage, are also visible for diskaid.

the only difference is that fileapp is not able anymore to move your files from DCIM/diskaid to its documents folder, because if apples f***ing "buy it, dont use it" strategy :(

this documents folder is located in: /var/mobile/applications/fileapp/documents/

just move your files in there, start fileapp and enjoy your victory XD
