I just found this from asking on the Synology NAS forum how to connect to my NAS as their DSFile app is pretty poor. Then someone recommended the most awesome app ever.

Its basically the files app but it supports everything the way you actually want. Connect to everything everywhere and all with IOS11 drag and drop goodness. On the left you get a panel with

Your PC files
You Mac files
Google Drive
Dropbox
Local Files
SMB shares
AFP shares
WebDav

But they are all in the same browser, no annoying flicking between different browsers. You can every download a file on your iPad when you are out directly to your desktop at home.

Yeah, been using it that way for some time. It works great. FileExplorer is another similar app.

I think Apple by being Apple are missing a trick. Files is not (yet) a proper file manager. This kind of major feature not being there affects actual purchasing decisions for the Pro model. I scour the internet daily reading tech news yet I have only just come across File Browser.

I hope Apple are just getting started with IOS11 and IOS12 pushes even farther into become a full OS capable of being stand alone.

Filebrowser is a great app. You can directly open and save a file on a server from an app through Filebrowser. I have the Filebrowser for business version which can also sync files to and from the iPad. It is like having your own cloud.

They [Apple] will probably get it when they finally attain enough stability by isolating files from the problem each individual service may have, enables safari style tabs and fully embrace drag/drop among services or within the same service.

Intersting - it says it can stream movies to apple TV

I've been looking for a way to play movies from my phone on the Apple TV other than Airplay
Yes, it is very good at doing that. It’s how I originally discovered FileBrowser, but now I use it for so much more. A brilliant app. Also there is now a FileBrowser app for ATV 4th gen and 4K.

I have owned this app for years and works good but lately I am of the opinion that Files is still going to be the main place to go in IOS.

The point the Files App has is that it glues all of these services together and integrates better into IOS, meaning IOS and all apps can easily access and manipulate whatever is in Files App (eg. Mail, Pages, Numbers, Word, Excel to name a few).

Files is not a replacement for FileBrowser or anything else but instead is a front-end which integrates all of these services. It is up to each service/app to write their program correctly to support Files.

FileBrowser needs to add edit/delete support to Network Folders within Files App though.
