Anyone able to help getting documents created on a MacBook to store on my iPhone to view when I'm away from home please?

I've created a Pages document on my MacBook called 'USA' that I want to be able to open and read when I fly to USA tomorrow. When on my iPhone I open the Files app and click on iCloud Drive...

and I can navigate to the folder containing the USA document, open it and read it fine, but is that because I'm sat at home with Wifi and mobile data?

If I turn off my iPhones Wifi and mobile data and go into Files app I can still click on iCloud Drive and navigate to the USA document and open/read it fine. I thought that meant it's stored on my iPhone, but when I click on 'On My iPhone' the document isn't there..

All I see are some other folders, it isn't in the 'Pages' folder so the document I want can't be on my phone..

Am I doing something wrong? I really need to be able to open and view the USA document when I fly to America.

"On My iPhone" is for files that are only on your iPhone. No other device will see them (like your Mac).

If you save a file to iCloud, it will be listed under "iCloud Drive" as soon as the iPhone receives an update from Apple's servers. If the file is listed but not downloaded to the iPhone it will show a cloud icon next to the filename.

Your USA file doesn't show the cloud icon, so it's currently downloaded and you can open it even if the iPhone is not connected to the internet.

I believe iOS may remove a local download of a file on iCloud under certain circumstances, so if you want to be absolutely sure that file stays on the iPhone you can copy it over to "On My iPhone". Remember that the copy will be a separate file, so edits to it will not be reflected in the iCloud version.

Thank you

How do I save it to 'On my iPhone' please?
If I hold down on the document I get the following screen of options..

Or if I click the share icon I get this..

Choose "Copy", then do the same long press on empty space while viewing "On My iPhone" and choose "Paste".

That's done the trick, thank you. Many hours of frustration but even though the document might already have been accessible for me when away from home I have now done this and it is showing in 'On My iPhone' just to be sure.
