Files Being Renamed

Hi all,

I have a friend who is computer illiterate, and she also has a 21" iMac.

She has a problem that I have never seen before, and I am at a loss to explain to her what is causing it.

What is happening is that she will save a document file or any file for that matter to her iMac, be it in a documents folder, a folder on the desktop, anywhere, and the next time that she turns the iMac on the file is renamed to a random set of characters.

I have since formatted and reinstalled snow leopard and the same problem has started again within a week.

Anyone out there able to shed some light on this?

Other than user error or something that is happening that you or they aren't explaining here then it's very strange.

I would say that there could be a file system error or the HDD is starting to fail.
Are the files still ok?
Have you run a chfs?
