Hi !

Can we finally download files in Safari and save them to the app "files" ?

And can we connect of usb drive to copy files to ipad (via the Files app again) ?

thanks

It seems we can download and save files locally through safari. It was possible before via storage containers (including those with local options). The only thing is I only seem able to save anything to local storage because my local storage is already populated with a folder from iThoughts2go. I can add anything I like to this folder (including creating new folders) and it saves fine from safari using the new dialogs.

No idea about your second question. Possibly won’t know this until people start getting their new pros.

Right now its still exposed as the “Save to iCloud Drive” option though there’s an extra part in that dialog which has the option “On my iPad” (which either it doesn’t work, or the Files app isn’t displaying things saved that way). Also the dialog is still as horrible as ever, presenting a long list of the entire iCloud hierarchy completely expanded (i.e. All nested folders shown).

As this will likely become the equivalent of the OS-wide standard Open/Save dialog I’d like to see several things: -

- Give it a name that’s more general and informative than “Save to iCloud Drive”. It will be able to do a lot more.

- Expose a bit more power and make it a bit more Finder/Files-like. Different view options and defintely not a mile long pre-expanded list, ability to create folders, to move/delete existing objects etc.

Ugh, this was seriously the worst part about iCloud Drive in iOS 10. I've sent feedback on this multiple times. It comes very close to making iCloud Drive unusable for me, and it could so easily be fixed with a nested/icon view toggle at the top of the picker or an option in Settings.

Yes, if you have a deeply nested setup with many folders it is, essentially, unusable. Hopefully it will take on more of the look and feel of Files during the beta.
