Filesharing: Mac to PC = slow!!

When I transfer 10 GB from my PC to my Mac it takes about 10 min.

When i transfer 10 GB from my Mac to my PC it takes 2 hours

Why is that, and how can I change it?

How full is the Mac hard drive? I've that if you have less than 10% freespace things can slow down.

Just a thought.

You should only transfer from the PC to the Mac, so that you can then put the PC into a conveniently located dumpster, and never look back!!

It's no where near full. Got like 70% space left. It dosen't really make sence. Unless there is a setting on my PB I don't know about. And even if I had only 10% left, the transfer speed should be the same, no matter where I transfer to and from.

As for changing my stationary PC's to Mac. Won't happen. If I wan't to play all games and upgrade once in a while, the Windows Box is the most affordable.

Give me 2500 £ and I'll consider it.

no dropping belwo 10% hard drive space will slow you entire computer down including file transfers. It has to do with with page filling and there not being enough room for that to work with.
As a rule of thumb aways keep at least 10% of a harddrive space free on any computer.

If I had 10% left, the speed would be the same if I send or recieve data.
That was my point.

Anyways I found the problem, it's my windows harddrive. When I transfer from, and to, my other windows box, the speed is all good.

again no it would not be. For saving stuff with less than 10% you entire computer is slow and plus the computer has to find the free sectors on the hardrive not taken up by the swap file. It comes with increase fragmation of the drive and it just being slower over all as data is moved around and deleted. as for sending not as large of a deal but writing it is a huge deal. Now if it was a 2nd hard drive it can be push a lot lower but as more and more of it gets full those issues come up as files have to become more and more fragmented to be put on there.

Ok, did not know that. I have plenty of space left, so not an issue on my PB. But how do you fragment and clean up your drive on Tiger?
