Hello!

Already much is written about file-sharing between Mac OS X and Windows 7 but I have a specific problem.

I can see the Windows machine in Finder and read/write files from the Mac onto the Windows machine. I can also see the Mac machine under the Windows explorer and read several folder on the Mac machine but I cannot write on the Mac.

It says:
You need permission to perform this action - Destination Folder Access denied

How is that possible? Thanks for all tips:)

Somehow I have on the windows machine multiple networks. Strange since I only have one cable in the machine. It's an unidentified network. Local area connection and another local area connection 2.

Maybe this is caused due to my gogo6 ipv6 tunnel?

sorry - i dont really have a lot of time right now to help.

can you please post a screen shot from System Preferences -> Sharing -> File Sharing? i feel that the answer will lie there.

i am sharing Macintosh HD to authenticated users with W&R, the rest can only read.

It works fine here. The settings for sharing that the previous poster mentioned doesn't matter for Windows sharing. Click on "Options", check the box for SMB sharing, and turn on sharing for the particular user account. Then from Windows, you need to connect via that account. In the explorer address pane enter \\systemname where "systemname" is the name of the Mac. You will be prompted for name and password which must match the account to which you want access.

;) i knew i was missing something there. silly me.

its better to use the IP address rather then DNS name - always causes troubles.

No problem with using the system name rather than IP address here. Seems to depend on the quality of the DHCP and DNS servers -- system names didn't work with an old Linksys router I had, but then worked with an Actiontec and now with a mini with Snow Leopard Server providing the services. But with several competing name services on a mixed network It's hard to know what resolving methods are working and being used. DNS seems to always be there as a fallback.

So you can see that I have the connection. The only strange thing is that some folders are locked and that I cannot write.

No name/password is requested for me.

When I enter static IP it's the same; no difference.

I can see the Windows machine in Finder and read/write files from the Mac onto the Windows machine. I can also see the Mac machine under the Windows explorer and read several folder on the Mac machine but I cannot write on the Mac.
This is my problem.

The configuration looks correct. Did you give you name and password when connecting? If so you should have the same permissions you do local to the Mac. If not you would have read-only access and some folders ("Documents" for instance) would be completely blocked.

Yes all seems to be correct and all was working with Vista but now with Windows 7 I have this problem.

When I check with another Windows PC I cannot see all directories as in the screen shot. Apparently I'm classified as Everyone with read only. But when I change all users to have all read and write permissions I still cannot read all dirs and also not write. Strange.

Think I have a clue. It has something to do with rights on the folders. See screen shot below.

The right is accessible but the left not. So I still log in to the mac as everyone?

You are setting general permissions in System Preferences, but the folder permissions will restrict access. If it doesn't ask for your login and password it won't give anything but "Everyone" access rights.

Seems like a Windows 7 problem -- something needs to be done there so you can log in to the Mac. Perhaps the capability is turned off in your system.

Somehow I managed to solve it. I restarted and then it asked for a password. And then it worked!!

Thanks for the advices.
