Due to numerous problems with the first generation 17 in MBP Ive decided to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau against Apple.
Mine was purchased in May. Since then I had to send it back three times, and replaced once for logic board, kernel panic and keyboard issues. Im not sure how anyone else feels about the problems they have been having, but my feeling is that this model MBP has obvious unresolved issues that are ridiculous to accept for a brand new product. Due to these numerous issues and the fact that they replaced it once already with the same model, I requested that they replace it this time with a CD2 and they refused, despite the fact that the logic board went out on both the original and the replacement.
What concerns me is what will happen after the 1 year warranty expires. And I think that it is also a ripoff for them to charge 350.00 for an extended warranty.
Even if I lose out, at least I will have peace of mind to know that I at least put up a fight. If enough customers get together with this perhaps a class action law suit will be appropriate.

How is filing with the BB.. whatever going to solve anything? Isn't the Better Business Bureau for people who get shoved out the door when they need help? From what you have posted Apple has tried most generously to fix the machine that you purchased. This will go no where. :)

When I get a ****** mac I just wait till the issue is resolved on their production line, sell it on eBay, and then buy a new one. Relying on Apple's tech support? You genuinely believe they are number one in the industry? Ha!

Obviously you either have not experienced issues like I have or are the kind of sucker companies prey on to accept faulty merchandise. And how in the world can you consider their effort "generous"? That is what a warranty is for.
And maybe it wont go anywhere, but like I said, at least I choose to fight for what I believe is right

umm good luck with that, I hope it gets your issues resolved. However the BBB is kind of a joke in general. I think their just pretty happy to take most companies money and list them on their local website.

Maybe I'm jaded, but I've just see too many hack companies listed with the BBB and not under the complaint section.

DeeCee - BBB = complete waste of time / joke.

Spend your time as you see fit - you would get a better return by jousting at windmills.

With three repair efforts the prudent Mac buyers are getting replacement machines - that is where I would spend my time.

Well its worth a try, just because I like my powerbook does not mean I would defend Apple till the death. I have seen plenty of people peeved by Apple products that crap out on them. Apple really does charge a lot for the warranty, and it would be nice if they offered two years standard over the current one, but thats just my opinion.

I sense this thread could get nasty.

You were probably just unlucky, because I don't see everybody on this forum with failing logic boards. Anyway having an upgrade request denied is no reason to file a complain to the BBB.

Are they giving you another replacement? Maybe if you add some $$$ they would boost you up to a C2D?

I hope you do finally get a resolution... do you know if your state has a "lemon law" type of policy that would apply to this particular issue? When you get to having as many repairs / defects as you had, it seems like you should at least have the option of getting your money back.

But I do tend to agree... filing a BBB claim is more good citizenship than anything else. The chances that it will help you as an individual are minimal. Good show, doing it. But don't hold your breath.

I got a free Audiovoxx 6700 because I contacted the BBB about Sprint.
Really though if they offer to fix your computer and replace it then I think it is reasonable that you get a CD and not a C2D. No company should offer a updated computer/version/software/etc because they original wasn't working. Unless you were unfairly treated and rude customer service and all that junk then a replacement should be fine. (No offense, just my opinion).
