'filling in' an outline font in Illustrator question

I am working with the font Princeton LET in Illustrator, which is an outline style font. I'd like to 'fill in' the middle so that the outside and middle are different colours. What is the best way to go about this?

Copy and paste it and outline the copy. Then you can double click inside the letters and select the parts of the letters to outline.

You might need to ungroup and then un-compound path the word first, especially with complicated words.

After you've got the right colour, send it behind the outline.

Thanks for the tips. I seem to be having problems with letters like the 'O' though. I can't find a way of not filling in the center of the 'O'.

When you release the compound path do you mean the inside goes all black? Once you've un-compoundpathed it, change the hole in the middle of the o to white, select all and make another compound path.

Does that work?

On a related side note, I don't know where I found it, but I have a solid version of Princeton also....

So you might wanna look around for that.
