Hi, I have an old Mac Pro 2,1 (Eight-core 2007) which was shutting itself down at random. By process of elimination (i.e. swapping GPUs, RAM, new PRAM battery etc) I'm thinking it is the PSU — I blew (copious) dust out of it and now it doesn't get beyond the chime upon startup and goes into a loop of restarting.

I can find some S/H units I have been told "will work" e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273085258659?ul_noapp=true However — on close inspection they seem to have same power output except for the first two output readings which are 13.6A, rather than the 18.8A on my PSU.

Will the Eight-core 2,1 work with the PSU from other 2,1 or 1,1 models with different amp outputs or is this a no-go? Hate to give up on this machine unless I have to :-(

Another possibility if it doesn’t turn out to be the PS is that the RAM in these gets very hot, especially if it just has regular heat spreaders and not the gargantuan Apple-spec ones. So you might see if the RAM overheating. On one of mine, I had some RAM overheating and shutting down machine because the CPU fans never came off idle (SMC issue).
