Is there anyone running Final Cut 4.5HD on a Macbook with 1 Gb RAM? If so, how does it perform? Is it worth the (substantial) additional expense to go for the Macbook Pro for this application?

FCP 4.5 is not Universal, so it won't even install unless you hack it somehow. And even then...it'll run like absolute bollocks. I wouldn't even put an Intel Mac and FCP 4.5 in the same room.

Thank you MovieCutter. I am new to Macs, my wife's been using it for video editing for quite a while but she is not very technically inclined.

You saved me from a potential disaster. Thanks again.

It's pretty cheap ugrading to upgrade it to the Universal version. If you did to this with a view to running it on a MacBook, 2GB RAM would be advisable.

FC works very very well on MBs and perfomance is basically the same as on as the previous revision of MBPs.

Final Cut Pro 6 is out now (as part of the Final Cut Studio 2 bundle) and it is UB.

Works fine on my MBP although I do have 2 GB's of RAM.

Your MB should be able to handle it fine if you add more RAM.
