final cut on i7 imac

A while ago I asked if many had first hand experience using the final cut studio on the core i7 imac. At the time, actual firsthand experience seemed rather limited. I am basically looking for an update on this situation. Has anyone here used the studio a decent amount on the core i7 imac, working with HD video? I was curious as to how the performance is working out. Also, I was wondering what the best solutions are to external storage, as this appears to be the most glaring short coming to editing HD video on the imac.

Also, as a quick aside, does the 27" i7 use desktop ram or laptop ram if I wanted to add ram after I purchased the imac.

Thanks regarding the RAM. Anybody have any experience with either fcs or cs5 on this machine? Does it respond well with the fw800 drives? Are the renders very fast etc? Thanks again for any info.
 
Nobody on here uses the new i7 imac with either final cut studio or adobe cs5?
 
It runs well, but an external hard drive, preferably a RAID-0 will help with the speed of editing.

Final Cut Pro is not able to take advtange of more than 2 cores currently for most of what it does, and is in serious need of a rewrite. Rendering and exporting do not tAke advantage of your machine at all, which is pathetic honestly.
 
I've used it. Motion, Soundtrack and FCP 6. All run great. Even when having pshop open saving files and doing "live" updates into motion, didnt have a problem. Render is slower than my mac pro at work, but you know... its supposed to be.

I've been cutting video for about 10 years now, and this iMac (sans the yellow screen) has been the best purchase I made for my house.

BTW: Editors don't make alot of $, thats why I dont have a totally radical rig at home. But why should I? I have it at work.

Anyway, If you can find one with out a f'ed up screen I'd pull the trigger for hobbyist and semi-pro video work.

But the reason I post this post is, is it normal that the voice is so muffled? It wasn't really clear to understand, as if the speaker would have been a meter away from the mic during the recording of this?

when you send a client a file and say "this one raw... just so you can see how it will come together, once I have your approval I will send you the real version" and they upload it to youtube, well... you get ****-house audio.

basically, they pulled the trigger behind my back and didnt listen.. their loss... i suppose.

Anyway, get the imac, don't worry about fcp suite, it will work fine. I also only have the stock 4gigs of mem. I do plan on upgrading to 8 gigs.
 
imac 27 is more than enough for final cut.

Even a dual core is just fine.
