final cut & logic pro already run on big sur, have since the betas started. the caveat (for me): a good number of 3rd-party plugins don't show up in logic... waiting for developers to fix this.

but the apps themselves work.

During yesterday's keynote there were new icons for Final cut and logic so i figured a big sur update would come out tomorrow along with big sur

logic 10.6 is already mentioned on the new mac pages, so it's real. and FCPX should update at the same time. so am guessing we'll see them any minute now (or, at least, when the new macs start shipping).

Technically they should be released tomorrow as opposed to when the new Macs are released because Big Sur is coming out tomorrow, don’t you agree?

but again, the current versions run on big sur, so not sure that's a deciding factor (that big sur drops tomorrow). either way, should be (very) soon...

They may "Run" but they're not optimized for Big Sur so how could apple let a major operation system out and not update it's core apps such as Keynote, Numbers, etc including Logic and Final Cut pro?

you'll know tomorrow! & the updated apps will happen, or they will follow soon enough. but again, both apps run fine on big sur, so it's not like everything will stop working with the 'final' OS release.

We havent heard anything about CoreAudio or CoreMIDI so Im not even so sure there's anything Logic might need to be 'optimized' for to begin with. It runs as well as it always has all the way back to Platinum 4, hasn't taken any performance hits at all. I did have some invisible plugins up until beta 9 when they all reappeared. Everything else is working fine. Maybe this update is for a new Ultrabeat GUI now that they finally killed the almost 20 year old EXS horror heh.

When would we know if an update comes out for logic and final cut today? 1PM Eastern when Big Sur will roll out?

your invisible plugins returned? i went back to catalina (on my work mac) because 9 of my plugins didn't show; maybe i will try again with the 'final' version today. good info, thanx!

The final is probably the same as RC version so i highly doubt it, Thats why they MUST release logic and final cut updates today, it would be beyond dumb and bizzare if they didnt, Numbers pages and all their core apps also MUST be updated today either at the same time as big sur comes out or before it comes out

Yeah they still have to compile an ARM version to be ready for next week so there's that. Lets see if its as easy as flipping a switch as they say haha.

@fisherking - yeah I only had a few that werent there. It was everything from D16 and Exponential's R4. The R4 was weird because Exponentials PhoenixVerb and Excalibur showed up and were working, just R4 didnt, of course right after I bought the upgrade to it hah. Everything is all good now, just need Akai to hurry up and fix their network MIDI app so I can sync my MPC with Logic over ethernet and record my stuff again.

You must have missed all of Macrumours complaining that Apple's servers aren't working for the Big Sur release?
I did but why would the new version of Logic and Final cut not work on catalina?(is it a Big Sur only release?)

Looks nice here too. Finally got the Mac to update to Big Sur using software update (still havent tried for the full release from the App Store yet), Logic still as solid as usual. Bonus points because apparently the Akai Network MIDI app still actually works despite the app itself having a blank GUI!! The ports are still there in Logic and my MPC still pulls an IP address so what the heck.. Sent clock to the MPC, start, stop its in sync! It still mounts on the desktop and passes its USB ports through, so Virtual Box and Sound Diver are still running with my old AMT8 connected to the MPC too. Now up to date and 100% functionality now.

Heh I kinda dig the icon better than the old one. They should bring back the old blue Emagic one just to mess with people.
