I currently have Final Cut Pro 5 for PowerPC. I saw this page about purchasing the Universal upgrade:

http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/

The way I'm reading the "Upgrade from..." table, it looks like if I purchase the upgrade for $99.00, I will get the ENTIRE Final Cut Studio. Is this true? Will I go from having Final Cut Pro 5 to having FCP, DVD Studio Pro, Motion, and all that jazz for just $99.00? I'm confused, but hopeful. ;)

That's true. Apple is being very liberal with the upgrades... I think to make the transition to Intel as smooth as possible for its professional users. I just mailed my FCP disc in a few days ago. In another thread, someone said it took about a week-and-a-half to get the updated version from Apple.

if that's what it says....

they do require that you send in your discs and they will send you back only the universal discs. you wont get the 35 pounds of manuals that come with the FCS (which you may need..)

Yes, you will get it all because Final Cut Pro is no longer being offered as a stand alone product. Only the entire suite (Final Cut Studio) is being sold by Apple now.

Wow, thanks! That is pretty amazing to me. It is indeed a bit of a shame you don't get hard copies of the manuals, but they come in searchable PDF on the disc, right? So that's no real loss to me.

Just as long as my PPC discs don't get "lost in the mail," this sounds really great. I'm definitely doing it.

Yep - you get searchable pdf manuals (in .app packages). They are installed to [disk]>Documentation.

Photocopy your disks (yep!) and the forms before you send them, then send by courier or registered mail and you should be ok.
