Hey guys!

I have made several posts, asking about how I could send/reply to texts from my computer, through my phone. This means that you can send/reply to texts using your phone #, not google voice or any other online method.

I finally found it! It's called desksms. It's originally for android, but JB phones can download the "Desksms" app and do it. It's AMAZING!!

I get desktop notifications (like ghcat does) from the DeskSMS client, and can reply from my computer. In seconds, it is sent from my phone...without me touching my phone.

I highly recommend you guys check it out! It basically enables you to type text msgs from your computer whenever you're there.

It's the most powerful texting tool I've ever encountered, and in my opinion beats BiteSMS.

The link to the lifehacker article about it: http://lifehacker.com/5834068/desks...to-texts-via-gchat-or-your-favorite-im-client

If anyone else has tried/tries it, let me know what you think!

Cant WAIT to get my iphone 4s, JB it and get this app. Going to need this since Im coming from my android Thunderbolt.

Yeah wifi SMS may be good for some, but my university doesn't work with wifi stuff. Also, with deskSMS, you can use it on the go, as your phone/computer don't have to be on the same wifi network.

That crap app never worked for me. Decided to give it another try. STILL doesn't work. It's just a useless piece of junk waste of time. Nothing syncs, nothing sends to the page or gtalk, and just simply doesn't work as advertised. DON'T use this app.

Uhhh it works for me. It took awhile to work for some reason, but now it's flawless. The likelihood of you just not being able to get it to work is much higher than the likelihood that the app itself is a piece of junk...

I've been using it for a while, and it is great. I just have it send the text in an email to the my email account, respond to the email on my iPad and then the phone sends the text without me touching it

It's originally for android

What? Originally for that crappy Android? NO CAN'T BE!

I thought Android was an inferior, blurry screened, overheating, battery sucking phone.

How could it be true, that Android would be first with anything desirable.

Can't be... ha... ha... ha :)

As far as sending messages from you're computer AT&T has offered that for years. I use it all the time from any computer. Its just another bonus (free) you get with AT&T.

You'd be surprise all they offer for free, if one just checks their site. AT&T has long been a value added carrier.

How do you get to that feature on AT&T and can you receive also?

Just follow the instructions. I have AT&T and it works. And yeah, you receive texts on your desktop (and phone)...so basically you get a notification on your computer that you have a text, and you can respond to them. Your phone doesn't have to be anywhere near you, just as long as the phone has an internet connection to send info to the server that your computer accesses.

That feature is horrible. It's like comparing the old computers that had green text/black background to Mac OSX.

i suppose there isn't any way of doing this with a non jailbroken iphone?

No :( The best thing you can do is have a program that lets you send a composed text to your phone, and then have you click "send" on your phone. You don't get notified on your computer when you get a text, either.

I'm just so excited because I have been trying to have this feature for years.

iSync / Address book used o let me do this with my Motorola 6 years ago... it was nice.

Congrats man. I really hope that Apple does something like what HP did where both the phone and tablet can get the SMS/MMS.

Why would i want to send a SMS via my desktop? My phone is right beside me everywhere I go

This app was working flawlessly for me until today. Anyone notice that when you try to open it, it just crashes now? It's also not sending msgs from my phone to gtalk. What gives :/
