Finally got the MBP.

Yes the computer is astounding! I've been waiting about 2 months for this, and finally went out to the store and bought it. It did turn out to be more expensive than originally planned because of the applecare program, but as i can see it was all well worth it.

I bought the 2.4 GHz, 15inch, Matte screen, god of a computer. Originally I thought to myself I would get a glossy screen, because of how much people enjoyed it. But I looked at the two in store, and it had smudges ALL over it, and I could see myself a few feet away. The glare was terrible, and the screens color didn't look as nice. Seeing my matte now is incredible, and although I can't criticize people who have chosen the Glossy display, I can't imagine mine being one.

Anyways so far the computer is flawless. I'm one of those guys with terrible luck, and I can say my computer is pretty much perfect. No dead pixels, no yellow screen (unlessed viewed by side), and the computer pretty much awesome. Unless i'm installing something like photoshop or transferring large amounts of files between networks, the computer stays very cool.

Connecting the external monitor was a breeze, I just took the converter thing in the box, used it, and it should worked. I have itunes, ichat, safari, and dashboard working and my temperture is about 50 C. Btw could some tell me what the number you guys use when using istatpro to determine the temperature, because i have lots of different numbers.

My only concern with the computer is that when going to about my Harddrive, the capacity is 148.73GB and the available is 130GB. I thought it was supposed to be 160GB?...

Anyways the computer is perfect, and I fully recommend it. People who go on these type of forums usually post about problems, but I decided on posting about the great computer i recieved...

Congratulations!

About the glossy screen, just think of how many people go by those models and touch the screens. For personal use, it won't get nearly as smudgey.

On Apple's game page, I believe there is a demo version of Age of Empires 3. There are some other demos there as well. And of course, World of Warcraft has a 10-day free trial which you could use to test out your performance.

The iChat video issue probably depends on the IM client your friends are using. If I remember correctly, there's a version of MSN Messenger out for Mac that supports video chats, might want to give that a google.

This has to do with the way nearly every hard drive manufacturer in existence calculates hard drive size. They all define 1 gigabyte = 1,000,000,000 bytes instead of the 1 gigabyte = 1,073,741,824 bytes which it *really* is.

This is called "binary" vs "decimal" sizes. If you look at the *fine print* you will always see "[Company X] defines 1 gigabyte as 1 billion bytes". This is standard industry practice, unfortunately were a drive manufacturer (Western Digital for example) to be *honest* about this then their drives as advertised would all appear smaller than the competitors, when in fact they would not be. Shoppers would be comparing "apples to oranges" rather than "apples to apples".

Put another way in reality your hard drive is 6400 million bytes rather than 6400 megabytes. A 6.4 GB drive is actually closer to a 6 GB drive when viewed from a *real world* standpoint.
