Heyh Y'all, So, The day has finally arrived. Today I make the switch. The Reseller just called me and told me that my brand new 24", 2,4 Ghz iMac landed in their store. I am a happy happy man. Just called a Taxi so I can go and pick it up! Yihaaaa!!!!!!! Any Advice on how to get the most out of my new baby? Thanks:D:D:D

I totally agree with the memory.

Probably not what this guy wants to hear..."I just got an awesome iMac!! What should I do?"

Answer: "Buy more memory"...

lol.

Seriously though, I just bought an imac at the apple store online and I can't wait for it to come. It's the 20-inch model, but it truly looks an an awesome machine!

Congrats on yours

I disagree with those people who told you you need to max out the ram. I'm running in 768 MB of ram and it works fine. When I have several apps open and trying to work at the same time, I do get a beach ball (OS X's version of the windows hour glass 'wait' icon) that would be probably be eliminated with additional ram, but it's really no big deal.

My suggestion is to go to Apple's Mac 101 tutorials, Apple's videos, and macrumors beginner's guide.

read all the MR guides in the yellow box on this page

especially the beginner's guide

And please please please do search the macrumors forum and google before asking a question that you think has probably been already asked and answered.

That should be more than enough to get you rockin.

Welcome, and enjoy! :)

Congrats on the purchase. I remember how excited I was when my iMac arrived 3 weeks ago! :D

Well, to start with I just bought one extra gig of memory, that should be enough to get me going, since that is what is recomended for logic studio - Witch is pretty much why I bought the computer in the first place, and let me say... WOW... Why i stayed with the PC for so long i a mystery to me now. .

On another matter: Do any of you now how to test the ram. I didnt get a "Click" when i installed it, but it shows up under "about this mac", so i just want to be shure.

By the way, when my girlfriend came home after I had set it up, her first respond was "WOW! Its Big" I said "well isnt it beautiful", she said "its BIG!" I said "Yes i know, isnt it cool" she said "its biiiiiig" and is still "complaining" about the size, haha. Any quick fixes for this particular issue?;)

All the best

Set your screen saver to show pictures of you guys and friends and family and all the great times you've had together, then maybe she wont see the big size as a bad thing anymore.

Oh, how many easy jokes can be done with that text.. :p

I don't use Logic, but for Photoshop, Garageband, iWork, iTunes, and email/web, 2GB has served me just fine. I very rarely see the beachball since I upgraded from 1GB. Enjoy your new computer!

My fiance had the same response. Just start a long boring speech (ala Abe Simpson) about how you paid $1k for a 15" lcd display back in 2001 that only worked with your Cube and the Power Macs of the time because of a particularly peculiar (albeit really cool) proprietary ADC connector, unrelated to the Apple Developers Connection, you understand.. where was I again?...etc etc.

Worked for me.:D
