Thanks for all of your help in this forum in answering all of my questions regarding the latest imac.

I have been a pc user my whole life and after my computer went on me I decided that I should consider the possibility of using a mac. I was just fed up with troubleshooting the pc, fixing the registry, running countless spyware/virus tests, and especially having music programs and video not be compatible and spending countless hours figuring out what to do.

After 1 month of research and stalling because of being petrified about some others issues regarding their Al imac purchase I read online, I finally just bit the bullet and hoped for the best purchasing a 20" 2.0ghz. Aluminum imac. I figured that the odds were probably in my favor of not getting a lemon because Apple would go under if the lemon count was high. The reason for getting the lowest end is that I figure if it lasts then I will be confident in Apple.

Although I only had my computer for a little over a week, I have to say that Leopard is by far the best operating system I have ever used. My main reason for saying this is because when click on a program the thing just works.

I plug a camera in and it works.
I want to chat online and it works.
I want to use photobooth and send a 40 second email of my daughter to my in-laws. I click one button to record and stop. I then attach it to an email. It takes all of 2 minutes. It works.
I want to download videos and it works. Granted I crashed imovie twice, but I also am still running on 1gb and was uploading 40gb of video off my Sony HDD Handycam.

The interface is simple to use even though I was a pc owner. It doesn't take much to figure out as it is the most organized system I have used. Even pictures and video get downloaded into categories and thumbnails pre-organized-unreal!

As for gradient issues, only when the screen is blue do I see a top to bottom difference, but I can't be certain. It may be the way I am looking ant my lcd because all other times it is not noticeable.

Lastly, the glossy screen. I guess I am not a designer so it doesn't bother me. It is no different than the older tube televisions. For example, in daylight, you will only see a glare if the screen is black. Other that that the display is adjustable and you will have no problems. Let me put it this way. My mac is in my kitchen with the screen facing a window. In addition, my kitchen is the brightest room in my home. And I have a bright home.

So if you are someone who has been on the fence like me and want an Al imac to use for internet, music, movies, watching television online, typing documents, putting together small home video projects, pictures, and video chatting, and want all of this to be done with no compatibility issues or other problems, then I suggest you put some serious consideration into an imac. But please research first to make sure all of your hardware will work-no mini-dvd's.

Hopefully no major problems arise for me ;) But if they do, I am happy you all exist.

Don't you love it. I got mine in late December and haven't looked back.

Last night I was using Windows XP to grab a file and kept looking for the menus on the top. :) I didn't realize how much I rely on those menus.

Congrats! I have been having the same experience with my new 24". Just bought it last weekend and still getting familiar with everything. Right now I'm in the process of making a video tutorial for my wife with iMovie and the built-in isight. Things are VERY easy to do in the Mac world.

I switched in January starting with a new iMac (if you don't count the iPhone I bought on launch day and recently upgraded to the 16GB version).

One word of caution....it won't stop there. Apple products are addicting.

5 years in for me, and that happy feeling still hasn't gone away. Congrats! You are in for a treat.

I'm glad you enjoy your new iMac. Remember that when you bought your iMac you also get the community. :]

Funny you say that. I think was brought in by the iPhone "halo" effect. The iPhone was my first Apple product too which I bought in Oct 07 then since then I bought my Mini (home theater) and my iMac all in the span of 3 months. I'm thinking this is what Apple intended. What a sucker I am :p

Addicting it is! After my son was born (october) I rewarded myself with a macbook pro. I needed a new laptop and recognized that macbooks were the most stable and highly rated laptops out there.

I kept trying to convince myself - it will only be the laptop, I will keep my pc as my desktop. I was resistant to admitting I am no longer a pc user.

Well, in the months to come - got my wife a macbook, got an airport extreme, ordered the 1TB time capsule, planning on an iphone, got the 160GB apple tv and have allocated some cash aside for a new 24" imac.

Say goodbye to the pc.

I also have quite a few ipods as well!

It sure is addicting! Around a year after switching I have bought 5 Macs, an iPod Nano and an iPhone. I am living under a bridge now but what does that matter as long as it keeps the rain off of my Macs?

Congratulations! You made the right decision with the iMac, they really are great machines; and trust me, it won't end there. Apple has something planted inside all their machines that once you get the first one, you can't stop. You'll find yourself purchasing Apple hardware and software left and right. Unfortunately, they sometimes put too much of it in there and you get those diehard Mac heads who spew crap about how much PC's suck. Please, don't turn into one of those people.

I purchased the last generation white 20" after I took back my aluminum one a few months ago, and I am so happy with my purchase. Welcome to the club! 

I got mine in August and it's been fantastic :D

I had a few teething problems at first which made me have an initial bad reaction, but I've grew used to the kinks that were soon ironed out with software updates.

Unfortunately, I have to use Windows regularly at school so I can never be free, nor do I reach up to the wrong side to close windows, etc. I guess I'm just going to have to put up being bilingual ;) haha

But I will never go back to Windows. Sometimes I've thought "I bet I would be able to do ___ on Windows" but those were in the early days when I had no software, etc. That's one mistake I made about switching. I had no money left over to buy software I needed. Thankfully, I have it now :) Everything is great :D

The only regret I have is not getting more RAM but, really, even if I top my limit, my iMac NEVER hangs like Windows. It just lags a little with Expose and spaces. But that's understandable - especially when I have Two Adobe CS3 apps open, Firefox, Safari (that leaks memory like it's going out of fashion), iTunes + Coversutra, Adium, Skype and Mail. And Leopard has taken up a bit more than Tiger did, so I find myself running out a lot quicker than before... but I will never go back to Tiger... OR Windows.
Will one day upgrade to 4GB :) For now, I'm perfectly happy. Once you go Mac, you never back :)
