... and placed an order for the 27" iMac with i5 quad-core. I also ordered the Applecare and the iPod Classic 160GB as part of BTS promo. They should be here next week. :D

I was ready to buy right after the refresh but waited for the iLife '11 to come out. I just hope that iLife will not come out anytime soon. :(

Now I've been hearing lots of issues with the iMac like yellow tint, dead pixels, noisy hard drive and humming PSU... did I miss anything? LOL. Can you guys direct me how to inspect as soon as my iMac arrives? I saw this website --> http://imac.squeaked.com/test.php to test yellow tint and dead pixels. I hope I don't have any of these issues at all. With regards to the noisy hdd, I heard Seagate 1TB are noisy. How can you check if you have Seagate 1TB or WDC 1TB? How can you get the WDC? Hit and miss?

Check which drive you have by going to System Profiler and then Serial-ATA

I installed a Western Digital 320GB
The second drive is the original Hitachi 250.

sorry for highjacking your thread delacruzjeff :)

my 27" iMac i5 quad-core will be delivered today. :D

hopefully things will be perfect... :apple:

i will inspect everything tonight and post the results...:)

Yep, I just ordered mine BTO today. Saw the FPS in X-plane 9 and that did it for me. 27" i7 with 8 GB (2X4), 2TB HDD, remote and Apple Care. All else std. Got my fingers crossed that it will be as perfect as the one I'm using right now. :D

Rich

Congrats! I recently pulled the trigger on a new MBP!

I had...different results.

I kid, I kid, I'm planning to buy a refurb 27' i5 here pretty soon. What's the first impression it gives you?

the iMac was delivered by UPS around 5:30pm. i quickly set it up to make sure everything is ok.

the result: NO DEAD PIXEL - NO YELLOW TINT - NO HDD NOISE. :D :D :D

i got a WDC 1TB hard drive.

the only thing i noticed was a small speck of dust on the bottom right corner of the screen. it's inside the glass. should i care about bringing this to Apple Store for cleaning or just live with it? my concern is if i bring this to Apple Store and have someone open it that it might attract more dust particles. what do you think?

Getting it opened up to have it cleaned will only cause more problems. Just learn to ignore it. I no longer even notice the speck of dust underneath my MBP screen.

Congrats and welcome to the club, about your speck of dust inside the glass I would take back only if you feel its going to be a nuisance and annoy you.

Thank you.

I have 14 days starting today to see if i can live with one speck of dust. I'll see if this will annoy me in any shape or form.

next purchase i think will be the magic trackpad and the battery charger. i kind of like the trackpad on my wife's 13"MBP. :)

They won't open it up to clean it. They will just roll their eyes and issue you a new one. Then, your new one might have a pixel out or yellow screen and you'll have to try again.

one more question: i bought this 27" iMac together with AppleCare. where can I find the diagnostic utility CD that supposed to be included in the box? the only CDs i got are the Mac OS X install dvd and the Applications Install dvd.

Hi -

diags are on the OS X Install dvd...

Start from power off, put dvd in drive, hold the D key down as the iMac boots... keep holding D down til you're in diags.

Congrats on the new machine and I Hope it checks out :)

i still can't figure out how to get a WDC hard drive rather than the Seagate hdd? Good thing i got the WDC. it's so quiet! :apple:

That's a 12" PowerBook. If it was a 15" or 17" PB, it would be harder to tell.... :p I kid, I kid... :D I actually lol'd when I read this post... I was on the phone with my (PC user) friend when I lol'd. I explained to him why I lol'd and he didn't think it was funny. Stupid PC users. Mac FTW!!!!!!! But actually, (not surprisingly) his Toshiba notebook is broken, so he is borrowing my old MB. He thinks it is great! Fast startup, he says is a plus! But he is saving up for a car, so he can't get a new computer. His Toshiba just needs a new HDD.
