Finally pulling the Trigger on a MB

Hey guys, I am finally pulling the trigger on a refurbrished white 2GHz MB CD. I have been saving money for this for a long time and now I am about to do it. I am a switcher and its going to be my first Mac. I am ordering it online, so I don't know when I will be getting it.

Anyways I am shipping it to delaware where I am with my GF now, however I go to school in south dakota and there is no apple store near by, so my first question is god forbids if anything goes wrong I have to ship it right, so would it matter that the shipping address is different and then if I have to ship it back to them it will be from a different address.


I am also planning to buy a sleeve for the MB, I don't know which one to order though. I have heard a lot of people talking about the STM rebound or the glove. I don't know which one will be better. I will be carrying the MB in my backpackaround campus and while I am travelling, so I need something which protects it from small bumps etc. any suggestions.

Also please I need to hear some good things about the MB, As I have read a lot of people complaining about it in the forum, I am a little scared and reluctant about it. I am a student and have saved this money for six months and I don't want to regret about it after buying. Some encouragement would be appreciated.

i'd go with the RadTech Sleevz or an Incase sleeve.

for all the complaining that goes on here, there are thousands of people happy with their computers. you only here the downside because people come here for assistance when they have a problem. it's useless to have a thread that reads "my computer is running great! how bout the rest of you?"

you're going to love your new machine and OSX. you're getting one of the best computers available today with the best operating system.

Wonderful Macbook

I received my refurb CD 2.0 as an early Christmas present 4 weeks ago. I upgraded it to 2GB of RAM (but many people say 1.25 GB is fine) and added a160GB HD (I wanted bootcamp to have enough space). Once that was done, I loaded up my apps (MS Office and CS2) and was up and running.

The system has performed great. I have had no freezes, panics or other problems. The only time the fan gets loud is when I play a game under Windows or do some batch DVD coversions to fit TV episodes on my ipod (any time I tax the CPU).

I retired my employer provided Dell and use this system 100% at work and at home. I wouldn't even have used bootcamp at all except for Visio, MS Project and playing the occasional game when I visit my daughter and the grandkids.

As for games, I'm sure you've read about the limitations of the Intel 950. While less than ideal, it functions with most of the settings on medium and low. Not great but enough to play LOTR BFME2 and COH over the LAN with my offspring. I just couldn't justify the additional $400+ to got to a MBP and I really like the white MB case. I am tired of the Aluminum look (my old Apple PB 1.25 is not the trendsetter it used to be).

I prefer the glossy screen and do not have a glare issue, even in my office filled with overhead flouresent lights.

I never use it in my lap so I cannot comment on heat but it never seems hot on my desk.

I have the C2D MacBook and it's good. It has no problems or anything, don't worry, I guess your MacBook will be fine. I also have the incase MacBook sleeve and it fits well. Good luck and a lot of fun with your MacBook!

In almost the exact same situation as you... I bought it in the Christiana Mall in Delaware, and i go to school in South Carolina...

When i had a problem with mine in South Carolina, i called em up, a box came the next day in the mail... Then i shipped it DHL back to them and they had it turned around and on my doorstep in 3 days... it broke Monday, fixed back to me Thursday, not bad...


You won't be dissapointed at all. The thing about macs is that they are made for the first day of.. WOW, and then once you get over the Wow factor, you will realize that this really is an awsome machine... and will do everything you need it to.

My only advice is buy more memory... i got mine with the stock 512, used it for about a month, then added a gig, which gave me 1.25gigs.. and the computer seemed to run twice as fast, for the $75 upgrade, it is WORRRTH it... but if you need to wait another month to save up some cash do it, itll run fine on 512.

I bought a refurbished 1.83ghz CD MacBook for Christmas and it came with 1GB RAM instead of 512MB RAM, also not a scratch on it, perfect condition and it runs WoW flawlessly.

Nice on the extra RAM! I just ordered the exact same refurb, will keep my fingers crossed!

Obviously I'd have liked to get the Superdrive, or a C2D. But at $799, that's a great price on a very powerful notebook with the iSight, remote, etc.

(unlike the G4 iBook which is still pricey as a refurb from Apple.)

I just bought my first Mac/Apple computer (see still not sure what the acceptable description is), its the MBP C2D 15". ordered online on a thursday, delivered to the door on sat (14, 16 Dec, during holiday shipping crunch). That was with added shipping for 2-3 day. Otherwise shipping was free at this time. So far so good. Have not had any issues with the system that were not traced to user ignorance. Very quiet system. No HDD, CD, DVD issues. Wireless (airport) works great (also purchased airport extreme base for wireless internet). My son was able to connect to internet via airport base with his IBM thinkpad while home from collage. My one regret is I purchased the HP photo-smart printer (c3180) with the assumption that I would be able to use it with the airport base and print wirelessly, unfortunately it is not compatible with the airport, so I still have to connect to the printer with a USB cable. If I had done a little digging I would have found this out, but I didn't .
BTW Apple is offering a max $100 rebate when you buy a printer with your new system (my printer was only $96 so basically free {if i filled out all the info correctly, sent in correct info etc., grrrr, another topic though grrr}) if you were considering that. As far as the printer goes, seems to work well so far.

If necessary you can send your computer to Apple by mail. Apple will send you a box. You can also take it to any Apple authorized service center. You can find them here. In twenty years of owning Macs I have only had two problems.

Ok, so I don't need to buy the apple care right away? I can buy that within the one year warranty period that also covers the refurbrished MB right? Also as far as the sleeve, some of you have suggested some names, however I would like to know which one will protect the MB the most from bumps and shocks and I need a sleeve where the MB does not move around inside the sleeve. I will let you guys know when I get my MB. Thanks for all your support.

Congratulations on your "new" (haha) MB. It's a great machine and I'm sure you'll love it. I too needed some extra reassurance before buying one because there are lots of complaints. Just remember a lot of ppl on MR are quite picky lols but also you gotta keep in mind that only people who post on these forums are ones with problems. There are tons of ppl with perfect MBs that don't just come on to say "hey it's great!". Lastly, these are refurbed so Apple has worked out any kinks in these! HF with your new mac!

congrats on the laptop. my first mac was an ibook g4 and i bought a marware sleeve for it. i really liked it - the fit was great. it is likely that i will buy a macbook soon and this is the sleeve i will buy.
