I've been running blacksn0w continually since sn0wday Nov. 3 and had had now problems with WiFi. Just about a half hour ago I experienced the problem for the first time. Took me a few tries resetting network settings, but it finally returned. Here's hoping it doesn't come back!

Here to hoping indeed!! Nothing worse than having an i'device' that cannot connect to the internet via wi-fi.

I received a tweet from iH8sn0w and he confirmed that the wi-fi loses connection when XEMN is used which is in blacksn0w and at the moment there is no "cure"! This could lead to a permanent lose of wi-fi functionality. I discovered this when i decided to remove blacksn0w application via cydia which may not have been the cleverest thing i did!!

How do you mean, "permanent"? Once you've removed blacksn0w and restarted commcenter, shouldn't that take care of the issue? Blacksn0w doesn't permanently change the baseband, it just injects its code on startup...

permanently as in the wifi simply stopped working...it could/will not recognise any wireless networks and had no luck with the countless restores and reset settings methods. ended up taking the iphone back to apple for a replacement as it was still under warranty.

dare say i cannot prove that the removal of blacksn0w had a knock on effect on the wifii only a coincidence that it simply stopped functioning when i did remove the blacksn0w software!

there are a few interesting tweets if you do a search for XEMN on twitter from the whiz kidz!!

If you did a DFU restore to an official firmware and still had the problem, I daresay it isn't blacksn0w that caused it since there would no longer be any trace of blacksn0w on your system. Sounds like a hardware problem to me.

mine has just done the same thing but just my luck no warranty.i have restored the phone as new and reset the network many time and nothing

damn. you might be right. i posted about this last week. sure enough, just uninstalled blacksnow (and the push/youtube), iphone rebooted, and wifi works just fine.

before my iphone wouldn't detect a wifi network even if i manually typed in the information.

You might want to try re-installing blacksn0w. There seems to be no pattern to the problem, so there is no guarantee you'd have the same problem if you reinstalled. Also, next time try resetting network settings a bunch of times until it works...some people have to do it a bunch of times.

Has also tweeted that blacksn0w is not at fault. Issue is with apple programing according to him. He offered to fix it for 10k. I can find the tweets if you want just look though his. Unless somebody shows him there is a problem he has 0 plans to fix it.

reinstalled, stopped working. uninstalled, works again. looks like you found the culprit.

mdwsta...your problem was identical to mine and damn i wish i still had my old iphone to prove this!!

prior the exchanging my iphone i did the blacksn0w re-install and uninstall but i did not do the push notification modification (via iphoneil repo!) after doing a clean restore!

did/do you still have the push modification install?!?

aka Geohot had some downtime so I searched for some of the past twitters for those not fallowing him! to me the issue also appears to be blacksn0w but somebody needs to convince Geohot of this he thinks we are nuts!

80% of the blackra1n support emails are complaints about it being tethered. get over it

declaring wifi bug closed, http://bit.ly/3ck1iu looks like my software didn't cause it, apple did

wifi startup appears intermittent on 3.1.2, regardless of blacksn0w installation...the (un)install process gives it another chance to work

i hate these intermittent problems, people have the stupidest ideas for what fixes them, like the blackra1n RC1 issues on 3G

Apple, will you give me 10k if I fix your wifi bug?

Geohot didn't say you're crazy, he said that your WiFi issues are not caused by his code. Just because installing blacksn0w triggers the WiFi outage does not mean that it is a bug in his code that is causing it or that there is anything he can do to fix it. Geohot has concluded that blacksn0w is only triggering a latent issue in Apple's Commcenter code (one which occasionally is triggered even without blacksn0w) and that to fix it he would have to fix Commcenter. It is possible that he is wrong, of course, but he doesn't really think it worth his time to mess around with it when there is probably nothing he can do.

That's a nice deflection but I dont agree. His product, for whatever reason, is causing the WIFI issue to appear...so his product is reponsible since the issue is only being reported as a consequence of blackrain.

My guess is he simply cannot fix this problem. If he could I would surmise his desire to one-up apple would kick in and he would do so.

Has anyone who pwned experienced this issue?

Your premise is flawed. This issue is not only bring reported as a consequence of blacksn0w. A large number of people who have updated to 3.1.2 but have not even jailbroken have reported an identical problem with disappearing WiFi. There's a huge thread about it on the Apple support website. That's what led Geohot to conclude that the issue is most likely caused by an underlying issue in Commcenter which is only being triggered in some cases by blacksn0w.

That being the case, of course he can't fix it. He doesn't have access to the code for Commcenter.

I have the same problem. Installed Blackra1n then Cydia and snow. Everything went fine, except that my wifi no longer works, resetting network settings doesn't do anything. Restore is the only thing that fixes wifi, but when you reinstall blackra1n/cydia/snow wifi disappears again.

Oh, Yeah....point me to some postings from people who have not jailbroken their phones.

Post you complaint on Geohot's blog or send him an email.

I had A WiFi issue on a virgin 3G, but no one will EXPLAIN "the" WiFi issue BlackSn0w supposedly causes for anyone experiencing my issue to corroborate. They just keep saying "the" as if everyone experiencing it knows what they are talking about, even without being BlackSn0w-related.

Well, the backup and restore data loaded on the "virgin" 3G came from a previously JB'd 3G, but it was a 3.0 beta phone JB'd long before BlackRa1n and BlackSn0w were around and the problem remained even after a reloading a full virgin FW w/o restoring a backup. The phone was never unlocked (neither was the phone the backup came from).

My issue: No access point visible, even when standing next to one and in rang of tens or them. But strangely, it's not so cut-and-dry... If I felt like running my battery dead for no reason, I *may* see the prompt for a random hotspot once a week or so. It co tinued doing it even after resetting settings and restoring firmware. Because my phone was reaching the end of it's warranty when it was replaced withthat defective one, I held on to it and lived with it that way for the duration of my 3 month extention so that I could get another. They didn't like that at the Apple Store one bit! It wasn't too bad because WiFi interferes with A2DP and vise versa on the 3G (try streaming YouTube or Pandora). It meant tolerating really crappy-looking versions of YouTube videos even when I was in-range of WiFi and not using A2DP though. :(

What explanation do you want? The blacksn0w-induced WiFi issue results in a complete lack of WiFi functionality. We don't know anything more than that. It starts seemingly randomly, and it usually (but not always) can be fixed by some combination of resetting network settings, turning airplane mode on and off, and rebooting. Sometimes it will take several reboots and resets. For some people it never seems to be fixed.

Sounds like it is the same thing, thus, I can possibly confirm that it isn't only unlockers experiencing it. My phone was even exchangedin-warranty without even JBing it because even restoring/upgrading the FW did not fix it.

Then its not a virgin 3G iphone.

I have yet to see anthing credible that indicates this is happening to virgin phones. A few questions, and low and behold...the phone aint virgin.

Has anyone who used pwnge experienced this issue?
