Although I purchased a Macbook for my needs weeks ago, I recently went to Best Buy for some non-computer related stuff and they finally had a MBA out in their small Apple section. I couldn't resist walking over and checking it out.

I have the say it looks much nicer in person. The screen looked great and I opened and closed some apps and it seems snappy. I picked it up as much as I could and it felt very sturdy and solid and not like it was going to bend or anything. As I was manhandling it, I noticed it was very forgiving with fingerprints, reminding me of those special surfaces used on appliances to reduce fingerprints. The metal construction feels thick and has a different feel than the MBP's. It's more like the metal used on the iPod Classic (silver). It has a slight metallic look to it. The keyboard and everything felt nice as expected (like the macbook) and the screen was slightly brighter than the Blackbook sitting next to it, but I wouldn't say it was leaps and bounds better, just a little brighter maybe. I also noticed the F5/F6? keys had a new icon on them, pressing it brought up an on-screen icon but I wasn't sure what it was.

All in all it was very nice and I'd love to get it but I really wanted an internal superdrive and expandible RAM, better HD, ports, so that's why I went for the Macbook.

It's a sexy machine and I can't wait to see how it matures over the next few years as all Apple products do.

F5/F6 control the brightness of the keyboard backlighting.

I agree.. The MBA doesn't fit my needs, but I was at the Apple store the other night so I decided to play with it anyway.. It really is a nice piece of equipment.. It was fast, sturdy, gorgeous to look at, and the screen was really, really nice.. I honestly couldn't find anything I didn't like about it- and I was looking since I knew I wouldn't be getting one-LOL.. This is the nicest laptop I've ever seen.. After taking it for a spin I WISH I had a use for it..

I hope to see one tonight while I am in the Apple store hopefully getting my faulty iPhone replaced. Even if they send the iPhone off for repair the chance to see an Apple store will be well worth it.
