Are individual Apple ID's required on each device in order to utilize this app? If so, it's worthless for me. My kids and I share the same Apple ID. I setup my phone with the app and when I tried setting up my kids app, I was prompted with " do you wish to follow this phone instead of Rob's phone"?

Yes this is not going to work as well for me as I thought it was either.

Yes you each need a unique Apple ID for this. Why not each have your own and just add apps from the "master ID"

How did you expect it to work? if you add your single appleID as a 'friend' and that was linked to 5 devices - what did you expect it to do? How would you have identified who was linked to each of the identical 5 blobs on the map?

I suggest you create separate appleIDs for each device, just for this app. Free and easy. Those IDs do not need to be the IDs those devices use for iTunes purchases or any other app or function on the device.

When they said how great this would be for keeping up with family members at the park you would think they knew that many families are under one account. Probably more that are then or not.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Did you just respond inside a quote? Anyways they explained to you how to fix this and the advice is good.

We've got an iTunes account for apps and purchases, but we're going to use separate accounts for other services. For example, I've got my own account which I'm using with iCloud and FindMyFriends and going to use with everything else that I need to keep separate.

Apple ID for iCloud/iMessages/etc: Unique for each phone.

Apple ID for purchases: Same for every phone.

You can do this.
